The Embracer Group’s financial report for the six-month period ending September 30, 2022, highlights a period of significant revenue growth alongside strategic organizational reassessment in response to global macroeconomic headwinds. The Swedish holding company reported net sales of SEK 16.6 billion (approximately $1.6 billion), representing a 148% increase year-over-year. Despite this top-line growth, operating profit (EBIT) declined by 36.3% to SEK 63 million compared to the same period in 2021.
Revenue distribution across the company’s diverse portfolio remains varied, with PC and console gaming contributing 38.2% of total revenue at SEK 6.3 billion. Tabletop games followed with SEK 5.9 billion, while mobile games saw an 84% year-over-year increase to reach SEK 2.9 billion. Entertainment and services accounted for the remaining SEK 1.4 billion. These results reflect the company’s ongoing efforts to diversify its holdings across 11 operative groups, including major entities such as Gearbox, Asmodee, and Saber Interactive.
In light of mixed performance from key releases and a broader industry downturn, the company has lowered its adjusted EBIT forecast for the 2023/24 fiscal year to a range of SEK 8–10 billion. Management is actively addressing these challenges by streamlining operations—such as merging the Volition studio into Gearbox—and exploring structural changes to maximize shareholder value. Notably, the board of directors is reviewing the business to potentially spin off certain operative groups into separate, publicly listed companies. This strategy aims to enhance strategic flexibility and long-term growth as the organization navigates a period of weakened consumer sentiment and shifting market conditions.
