This new competition features professional football clubs and esports organizations. It serves as a qualifier for the FIFAe Club World Cup 2023.
Electronic Arts has unveiled its comprehensive esports roadmap for FIFA 23, detailing a structured competitive season that integrates new formats and expanded partnerships. The strategy centers on two primary competitive pillars: the inaugural EA SPORTS Cup and the returning FGS 23 1v1 circuit. The EA SPORTS Cup, a 2v2 competition, launches on October 17, 2022, featuring professional football clubs and established esports organizations, with the finals scheduled for January 2023 to determine qualifiers for the FIFAe Club World Cup.
The FGS 23 1v1 circuit runs concurrently, beginning with online qualifiers in September 2022 and culminating in a Midseason Major in London on April 7, 2023. This circuit is supported by over 30 football league partners and confederations, including the ePremier League, Virtual Bundesliga, and eMLS, which provide additional pathways for competitors to represent professional clubs. The season will conclude with the FGS Playoffs in June 2023, followed by the FIFAe World Cup 2023 in late summer, where the global champion will be crowned.
The entire competitive ecosystem is presented by PlayStation and is exclusive to the PlayStation 5 platform. While the roadmap establishes a clear timeline and organizational structure for the 2022-2023 season, specific financial details, such as total prize pool allocations, remain undisclosed. The initiative reflects a continued effort by Electronic Arts to bridge traditional football fandom with digital competition through a global, multi-tiered tournament structure.
