Nippon Ichi Software
Nippon Ichi Software’s financial results for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2014, reflect a significant recovery and return to profitability compared to the previous fiscal year. The company reported consolidated net sales of 3.67 billion yen, representing a 45.0% increase year-over-year. Operating profit reached 580 million yen, a sharp turnaround from the 181 million yen operating loss recorded in the prior period. Net income for the year was 481 million yen, compared to a net loss of 215 million yen in the previous fiscal year.
The company’s performance was driven by its four primary business segments: Package, Online, License, and Other. The Package segment, which remains the core business, released 16 titles globally, including 20th-anniversary commemorative products, contributing 2.69 billion yen in sales and 346 million yen in operating profit. The Online segment, encompassing social games and digital content distribution, generated 704 million yen in sales and 379 million yen in operating profit. The License and Other segments contributed 121 million yen and 145 million yen in sales, respectively.
Financial stability improved significantly during this period, with total assets rising to 2.63 billion yen and the equity ratio increasing to 79.5%. Cash flow from operating activities reached 961 million yen, bolstered by strong sales performance. Looking ahead to the fiscal year ending March 2015, the company anticipates a more challenging environment due to market saturation and shifting consumer trends, projecting a decline in sales to 2.85 billion yen and operating profit to 152 million yen. Management intends to focus on strengthening its consumer business through the development of new intellectual property, optimizing development cycles, and enhancing 2D production capabilities to maintain long-term growth.
