Capcom’s financial results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2014, reflect a period of growth in net sales and net income, driven primarily by strong performance in the Amusement Equipments segment and robust consumer software sales. The company reported net sales of 102.2 billion yen, an increase from 94.07 billion yen in the previous fiscal year, while operating income remained relatively flat at 10.29 billion yen. This stagnation in operating income was largely attributed to lower profitability within the Mobile Contents and PC Other categories, which offset gains made elsewhere.
The Digital Contents segment, which serves as the company’s core business, saw a significant shift toward digital distribution. While packaged software sales declined to 12.7 million units, total consumer software sales reached 17.5 million units, bolstered by a substantial increase in full-game digital downloads and add-on content. Flagship titles such as Monster Hunter 4, which shipped 4.1 million units, and Dead Rising 3, which reached 1.2 million units, were instrumental in exceeding sales targets for the consumer division. Conversely, the Mobile Contents and PC Other sectors underperformed, failing to meet internal projections due to a lack of new hit titles and lower-than-expected distribution contributions.
The Amusement Equipments segment emerged as a major growth driver, with net sales rising to 23.1 billion yen and operating income reaching 7.1 billion yen. This success was fueled by the launch of two popular pachislo machines, Monster Hunter Gekka Raimei and Devil May Cry 4, which collectively sold over 70,000 units. Meanwhile, the Arcade Operations segment experienced a slight decline in revenue, with existing-store sales down 5% year-over-year, though the division maintained steady earnings through rigorous cost management and operational efficiencies. Overall, the company’s performance aligned with its revised forecasts, supported by a strategy of leveraging intellectual property across multiple entertainment channels.
