This agreement will feature the Call of Duty League in the annual eight-week summer competition held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The partnership officially began on December 6, 2024.
The Call of Duty League has entered into a three-year partnership with the Esports World Cup Foundation to integrate competitive Call of Duty and Warzone into the foundation’s annual eight-week summer tournament series. This agreement, which officially commenced on December 6, 2024, at the start of the league’s sixth season, marks a strategic expansion of the competitive calendar. As part of the arrangement, the Call of Duty League will extend its season into August 2025 to facilitate an officially sanctioned event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
While the financial terms of the agreement between the league’s owner, Microsoft subsidiary Activision Blizzard, and the Esports World Cup Foundation remain undisclosed, the partnership underscores the continued influence of the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund in the global esports landscape. The Esports World Cup is facilitated through a network of government-linked entities, including the Saudi Esports Federation, Savvy Games Group, and the ESL FACEIT Group.
The collaboration aims to foster the growth of competitive Call of Duty by providing professional players and affiliated organizations with additional high-stakes, pro-am style competition opportunities. By securing a multi-year commitment, both parties intend to stabilize the presence of the franchise within the international tournament circuit, ensuring that the title remains a fixture of the summer event through at least 2027.
