Bandai Namco
The Bandai Namco Group’s first-quarter financial results for the fiscal year ending March 2023 demonstrate significant growth across its core business segments. The company reported consolidated net sales of 216.2 billion yen, representing a year-over-year increase of 38.2 billion yen, and an operating profit of 44.3 billion yen, up 17.3 billion yen from the same period in the previous year. These results reflect a strong start to the fiscal year, driven primarily by high-performing digital content and robust demand in the toys and hobby sector.
The digital segment served as a primary growth engine, with sales rising to 89.5 billion yen and segment profit reaching 29.4 billion yen. This performance was largely attributed to the sustained popularity of the home video game Elden Ring and consistent engagement with existing network content titles. Simultaneously, the toys and hobby segment maintained high profit margins despite rising logistics and operational costs, bolstered by strong sales of products targeting mature fan bases and card-related merchandise. The amusement unit also showed signs of recovery, returning to profitability with 2.1 billion yen in segment profit as facility and machine operations improved.
Looking ahead, the company has revised its first-half forecast upward, projecting consolidated net sales of 430 billion yen and an operating profit of 72 billion yen. While the full-year plan remains unchanged for the time being, management intends to monitor market conditions closely. The company continues to prioritize the expansion of established intellectual properties, such as Mobile Suit Gundam, Dragon Ball, and One Piece, while investing in cross-platform initiatives to connect with global fan bases. These results underscore a strategic focus on leveraging high-value IP to drive profitability across diversified entertainment channels.
