Bandai Namco
Bandai Namco Holdings’ financial results for the third quarter of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2023, demonstrate strong growth across its diversified entertainment portfolio. The company reported net sales of 743.1 billion yen for the nine-month period, representing an 18.3% increase compared to the previous year. This performance reflects a robust recovery and expansion in core segments, particularly within the Toys and Hobby and Amusement divisions, which saw significant year-over-year revenue gains.
The Toys and Hobby business emerged as a primary growth driver, generating 345.1 billion yen in sales, a 20.7% increase over the prior year. This segment benefited from the sustained popularity of major intellectual properties, with Mobile Suit Gundam and One Piece showing particularly strong performance in the Japanese market. Simultaneously, the Digital Entertainment segment, which encompasses network content and home video games, contributed 288.5 billion yen to total sales. While home video game unit sales reached 38.7 million, the segment faced shifting market dynamics that impacted operating profit margins compared to the previous fiscal year.
Geographically, the company maintained a dominant position in Japan, which accounted for 519.7 billion yen in sales. However, international markets showed notable momentum, with the Americas and Europe recording year-over-year sales growth of 42.2% and 42.9%, respectively. The Amusement business also experienced a positive trend, with existing-store sales in Japan consistently outperforming the previous year’s benchmarks throughout the third quarter.
The company’s financial strategy remains focused on leveraging its extensive IP library to drive cross-segment engagement. With total operating profit reaching 106.2 billion yen for the nine-month period, management has maintained its full-year outlook, projecting total net sales of 940 billion yen. These results underscore the effectiveness of the group’s integrated business model in navigating a complex global entertainment landscape.
