Bandai Namco
Bandai Namco Holdings reported strong financial growth for the third quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2012, reflecting a significant recovery in profitability across its core business segments. Consolidated net sales for the nine-month period reached 323.4 billion yen, representing an 112.3% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. Operating income saw a substantial rise to 30.8 billion yen, a 185.3% increase year-over-year, driven by improved performance in the Content and Toys and Hobby divisions.
The Content business, which encompasses arcade machines and home video game software, served as a primary growth engine, generating 151.4 billion yen in sales. Home video game software performance was bolstered by a global portfolio of 232 titles, with notable contributions from major releases such as Tales of Xillia and Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. The Toys and Hobby segment also demonstrated resilience, achieving 133.6 billion yen in sales, supported by strong demand for established character franchises including Masked Rider, One Piece, and Mobile Suit Gundam.
Geographically, Japan remained the dominant market, accounting for 274.8 billion yen in sales. While international operations in the Americas and Europe faced challenges, the company maintained a strategic focus on optimizing its amusement facility footprint, which totaled 255 locations by the end of the third quarter. The company’s financial results indicate a successful pivot toward higher-margin content and efficient cost management, positioning the firm to meet its full-year forecast of 440 billion yen in net sales and 31.5 billion yen in operating income.
