Stream Hatchet
Channels with more than 100 average viewers represent a small portion of all Twitch channels. However, they hold a significant share of the total subscriber base.
Dominant share. Celebrity streamers, making up 6% of channels, command 58.6% of total Twitch subscribers.
The distribution of subscribers on Twitch is characterized by a significant concentration of influence among a small minority of creators. The primary objective of this analysis is to categorize streamers into distinct tiers based on their average viewership to help marketers and sponsors understand the strategic value and trade-offs associated with each group.
The data reveals a stark disparity in audience reach. Small channels, defined as those with an average of fewer than ten viewers, constitute 61% of all Twitch channels but capture only 4.4% of total subscribers. Mid-sized channels, averaging between 11 and 100 viewers, represent 33% of the platform and command 37% of the subscriber base. Conversely, celebrity streamers—those with more than 100 average viewers—account for only 6% of the total channel count yet possess 58.6% of all subscribers.
These findings suggest that while celebrity streamers offer massive reach and high visibility, they also present challenges regarding high costs and intense competition for audience attention. Mid-sized channels offer a balance of credibility and professional growth, particularly those with over 25 average viewers, where roughly one-fifth of followers typically convert to subscribers. Small channels, while difficult to discover and less proven, provide unique opportunities for cost-effective partnerships and high-impact engagement within niche communities. Ultimately, the analysis concludes that an effective sponsorship strategy requires a nuanced approach, weighing the benefits of reach against the specific goals of brand credibility and audience targeting.
