UK Games Fund
Each selected company will receive £20,000 in funding. This investment is dedicated to the development of original intellectual property.
The UK Games Fund has officially announced the selection of 40 companies for its 2026 Starter Fund cohort, marking a significant investment in early-stage domestic game development. Each selected company will receive £20,000 in funding dedicated to the development of original intellectual property, providing the necessary capital to refine concepts, conduct market research, and establish a foundation for commercial viability.
The selection is divided into two distinct pathways tailored to different stages of studio maturity. The Head Start Pathway accounts for 30 of the selected companies, focusing on solo developers and early-stage studios that possess some commercial experience and are preparing for future prototype pitches. The remaining 10 companies are enrolled in the Fresh Start Pathway, which serves as a launchpad for graduate-level studios and nascent teams. This pathway emphasizes long-term sustainability by providing structured support, including expert facilitation, business development guidance, and network expansion.
By supporting these 40 entities, the initiative aims to foster a robust pipeline of talent within the UK games industry. The program serves as a critical bridge for developers, helping them transition from initial creative concepts to professionalized, market-ready businesses. This strategic allocation of resources is designed to build momentum for emerging studios, ultimately strengthening the broader UK games ecosystem by ensuring that promising ideas have the support required to reach a global audience.
