Gamecity Hamburg established a specialized initiative for the 2019 Gamescom trade fair to support local independent game developers. The primary objective was to provide small, Hamburg-based studios with affordable access to the event’s Business Area, facilitating networking opportunities with international industry experts, publishers, and potential partners that might otherwise be financially inaccessible to them.
The program offered a comprehensive service package for a fee of 500 euros, which included access to the shared Gamecity Hamburg exhibition booth and the associated lounge, as well as shared use of conference rooms. Eligibility was restricted to independent studios headquartered in Hamburg that were incorporated on or after June 1, 2016. Furthermore, applicants were required to demonstrate a playable version of their current project to qualify for participation.
The initiative was limited to six available spots, with a submission deadline of July 19, 2019. In the event of high demand, selection was determined by the chronological order of application arrivals. By lowering the barrier to entry for the B2B sector, the program aimed to foster the growth of the local indie ecosystem and enhance the international visibility of Hamburg’s emerging game development talent.
