The global venture capital market in Q2 2025 is characterized by a trend of consolidation, where investors are deploying fewer, larger bets into high-potential sectors. Despite a 9% decline in deal volume from the previous quarter, total global funding remained robust, exceeding $90 billion for the third consecutive quarter. Specifically, $94.6 billion was deployed across 6,028 deals, with the median deal size climbing to a record $3.5 million. This shift reflects a strategic move toward concentrating capital in more mature, high-conviction ventures.
The U.S. continues to lead global activity, accounting for $68.7 billion across 2,430 deals, while Europe and Asia contributed $13.8 billion and $9.0 billion, respectively. A significant portion of this capital is flowing into hard tech, including aerospace, defense, and energy infrastructure, which secured six of the ten largest deals of the quarter. Artificial intelligence remains the dominant sector, attracting $47.3 billion—nearly 50% of all venture funding—with a median deal size of $4.6 million. Mega-rounds, defined as deals exceeding $100 million, were a primary driver of market activity, accounting for 61% of total funding.
While the broader exit market remains tepid, AI-related mergers and acquisitions reached record highs as major technology firms prioritized minority investments and strategic partnerships over outright acquisitions. Corporate venture capital activity hit a seven-year low in terms of deal count, though syndicate formations are increasing to meet the capital requirements of large-scale infrastructure and AI projects. The quarter also saw the emergence of 32 new unicorns, signaling that top-tier technical teams continue to command significant valuations even in a selective and rigorous funding environment.
