PlayWay
PlayWay achieved its strongest first-quarter financial performance to date in 2024, characterized by growth in both net revenue and profitability. The Polish publisher reported net revenue of PLN 66.9 million ($16.9 million), representing a 4.7% increase year-over-year. Operating profit rose by 15.4% to PLN 47.4 million ($12 million), while net profit saw a more significant gain of 27.7%, reaching PLN 46.8 million ($11.8 million).
The company’s revenue remains heavily concentrated in its established simulation franchises. The House Flipper series served as the primary growth engine, contributing 28.5% of total revenue with an 83.7% year-over-year increase in sales. Conversely, the Car Mechanic Simulator series, which accounted for 17.3% of revenue, experienced a 31.7% decline compared to the previous year. Other notable contributors included Contraband Police, Cooking Simulator, and Thief Simulator, which collectively rounded out the top revenue drivers.
PlayWay operates through a decentralized model, maintaining varying ownership stakes in numerous development studios rather than acting as a direct developer for every title. This structure supported the launch of several projects during the quarter, including Supermarket Manager Simulator and Robin Hood: Sherwood Builders, alongside pre-launch activities for Infection Free Zone and Crime Scene Cleaner. Looking ahead, the company identified potential risks to future performance, specifically citing currency exchange rate volatility, inflationary pressures on operational costs, and increased competition from new market releases.
