Playa Games: New CEO and Changes in Management

Playa Games, a Hamburg-based game developer, announced a significant leadership transition in January 2021. Thorsten Rohmann, who previously served as the company’s Chief Operating Officer for nine years, assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer with immediate effect. This transition coincided with the departure of the company's founders, Jan Beuck and Martin Jässing, as well as Co-CEO Hannes Beuck.

The strategic direction under the new leadership emphasizes a concentrated focus on the company’s flagship title, Shakes & Fidget. Rohmann indicated that the studio intends to dedicate its full resources and energy to the continued development and support of this game. Regarding broader industry trends, the company identified the ongoing global pandemic as the primary external factor influencing the operational landscape for game developers throughout 2021.

Reflecting on his tenure, the new CEO highlighted the successful multi-platform expansion of the company’s portfolio—specifically the launches on Android, iOS, and Steam—as key milestones in the studio's history.
