The projected revenue was an 18% increase from 2014, placing Mexico 14th among global gaming markets.
Mexico's digital games ecosystem, as examined through a 2016 industry survey of professionals conducted in late 2015, is characterized as early-stage and uneven. The analysis draws on Newzoo data placing Mexican consumers as the second most active games market in Latin America and fourteenth worldwide, with a projected consumer market of roughly US$1.2 billion in 2015 and 64.8 million gamers, about seven in ten of whom play on mobile devices.
The local development sector is modest but growing. Roughly 150 companies employing an estimated 800 people posted about 37% year-over-year growth, with first-half 2015 turnover of approximately MXN$54.9 to 79.3 million. International publishers maintain local offices to capture this demand, yet domestic studios remain constrained by a shortage of publishing and marketing expertise, limited job absorption relative to the number of graduates, and a lack of the entrepreneurial and business skills needed to build sustainable companies.
Structural barriers extend beyond individual studios. Government support programs are described as bureaucratic, digital game regulation does not yet exist, and no legally constituted industry association represents developers collectively. The analysis concludes that growth is concentrated in regions with active developer communities, supportive academic institutions, and committed public or private backing, suggesting that the ecosystem's trajectory depends on strengthening these enabling conditions rather than on market demand alone.
