Looking Back at the Hamburg Games Conference 2022: Germany

The 13th Hamburg Games Conference, held March 2 and 3, 2022, is recapped as a successful hybrid event organized by Gamecity Hamburg. It combined the online platform built by Super Crowd Entertainment, which had carried the previous year's purely digital edition, with an on-site conference day at the newly opened gaming house RCADIA in Hamburg. The event marks the return of in-person networking alongside digital participation under the motto "Moving Markets."

Attendance reached almost 600 guests from 35 nations. Eighteen presentations offered reviews, insights, and outlooks on the changing games industry, and 61 partners and exhibitors presented themselves either digitally or on site. The online platform let participants explore a virtual world of six cities, framed as a "digital cruise," where companies, studios, and newcomers showcased their work. Hamburg's mayor, Peter Tschentscher, opened the conference with a speech.

A central focus was local talent development. Graduates of Gamecity Hamburg's Games Lift incubator and Prototype Funding Program showed projects on both the platform and at RCADIA, where several could be tested publicly for the first time. Titles included Wild Woods, The Amusement, Soultaire, Ninja Brigade, Lost Sector, Leif's Adventure, Monstersongs VR, Turbo Shell, Crumbling, Prospector, Project MORPH, and The Hunt for Epic Treasure. Other Hamburg studios demonstrated the VR game Tower Tag and the augmented reality experience Project Paranoid.

Gamecity Hamburg head Dennis Schoubye described the conference as an annual highlight that opens the international industry event calendar and positions Hamburg as a key European games location, noting strong participant response. The event closed with a relaxed gathering at RCADIA.
