LeagueSpot, a Chicago-based esports and gaming technology company, has acquired Mission Control, a St. Louis-based firm specializing in recreational youth and community esports league management. The acquisition, finalized in September 2024 for an undisclosed amount, serves as a strategic move to facilitate LeagueSpot’s expansion into the broader traditional youth sports market within the United States.
Mission Control, founded in 2018, brings a robust portfolio of over 300 organizational partners, including municipal parks and recreation departments, universities, and various corporate entities. The platform has been instrumental in integrating competitive gaming into community-focused sports programs. By absorbing Mission Control, LeagueSpot aims to leverage its existing infrastructure to bridge the gap between digital esports and traditional athletic community engagement.
The integration involves significant leadership transitions, with Mission Control co-founders Austin Smith and Byron Abrigg joining the LeagueSpot team to oversee sales and strategic development. Additionally, LeagueSpot has bolstered its board of directors by appointing Taryn McCarty and Rob Johnson, both of whom bring extensive experience in sports marketing and business development.
LeagueSpot currently serves more than 100,000 active users across over 1,000 schools, colleges, and organizations. By combining its white-label platform services with Mission Control’s community-building expertise, the company intends to solidify its position as a primary provider of competitive circuit and tournament management solutions across the scholastic and recreational sectors.
