Core adaptation. The game replicates arcade gun-controller mechanics using gyroscope controls within the Unity 3D engine for Android devices.
Full Metal Parabellum is a three-dimensional rail shooter game developed for Android smartphones using the Unity 3D engine. The primary objective of the project is to adapt the traditional arcade rail shooter experience—typically confined to large, stationary cabinets—into a portable format. To achieve this, the game utilizes the smartphone’s built-in gyroscope sensor to simulate the gun controller mechanics found in classic arcade titles, allowing players to aim and control the in-game camera by physically rotating their devices.
The development process followed a structured design methodology, incorporating five distinct stages, three boss encounters, and specific sound and character design elements. To ensure functionality and user satisfaction, the game underwent three phases of testing: black box testing to verify module performance and bug-free operation, alpha testing conducted by faculty supervisors to refine gameplay mechanics, and beta testing involving a survey of 30 respondents.
Key findings from the beta testing indicate high user acceptance of the control scheme, with 83.3% of participants reporting that the gyroscope accuracy was adequate and comfortable for gameplay. Furthermore, 80% of respondents found the game entertaining and expressed a desire to play it again. The data also confirmed that the game’s difficulty curve effectively increases across its five stages. Ultimately, the project demonstrates that integrating gyroscope technology into mobile rail shooters provides a viable, precise, and engaging alternative to traditional virtual joysticks, successfully bridging the gap between stationary arcade experiences and mobile gaming.
