The July 2026 update for the Goal State project provides a progress report on the development of a comprehensive video lecture and tutorial series focused on the foundations of artificial intelligence for game development. Following a successful Kickstarter campaign in December 2024, the project is currently in the production and editing phase, with a target completion date set for the end of 2026.
The project’s theoretical component is nearing completion, with the accompanying book reaching approximately 175,000 words across 448 pages. Only three chapters remain to be finalized, covering constraint satisfaction problems, uncertainty modeling, and behavior trees. The team has successfully maintained a high output, writing 53,000 words during the second quarter of 2026. Simultaneously, the practical development phase is advancing, with work currently focused on implementing Goal-Oriented Action Planning (GOAP) systems within both the Unity and Unreal game engines.
The production team, consisting of three primary contributors, has adopted a multi-camera recording setup to enhance the quality of the lecture materials. While approximately 40% of the theory content has been recorded, the team is currently refining its editing workflow to prepare for the bulk processing of 21 chapters and associated tutorials. Despite challenges such as seasonal heatwaves and personal health issues affecting vocal performance, the project remains on track. The team intends to finalize all content by the end of the third quarter, shifting focus to final editing and launch preparations for the remainder of the year.
