The ESL FACEIT Group (EFG) finalized the acquisition of the U.S.-based esports production company Vindex on February 17, 2023. This strategic move integrates Vindex’s core operational assets, specifically the Esports Engine and the Vindex Intelligence Platform, into EFG’s broader portfolio. By absorbing these entities, EFG aims to bolster its internal capabilities regarding esports event production and data-driven insights.
The transaction notably excludes Belong Gaming Arenas, Vindex’s division focused on physical gaming centers and venues. As part of the restructuring, Belong Gaming Arenas will be spun out to operate as an independent entity. Following the acquisition, Vindex CEO Mike Sepso will remain in his current role, while Chief Strategy Officer Sundance DiGiovanni will continue his duties at Vindex while assuming additional leadership responsibilities within EFG.
This acquisition further consolidates the industry presence of the Savvy Games Group, which owns EFG and is backed by the Saudi government’s Public Investment Fund. The deal reflects a broader trend of consolidation within the competitive gaming sector, as major tournament organizers seek to vertically integrate production and intelligence services. While the financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, the move positions EFG to leverage Vindex’s specialized infrastructure to support its global event operations.
