The company reported a significant increase in its net loss compared to the previous fiscal year.
Enthusiast Gaming’s financial results for the 2022 fiscal year reveal a complex performance characterized by significant revenue growth offset by substantial net losses and a tightening cash position. While the company successfully expanded its top-line revenue and gross profit, rising operating costs and a notable goodwill impairment contributed to a widening net loss compared to the previous fiscal year.
For the full 2022 fiscal year, the company reported revenue of $202.8 million CAD ($149.5 million USD), representing a 21% increase over 2021. Gross profit also saw strong growth, rising 68% to $63.5 million CAD ($63.5 million USD). Subscription revenue grew as well, reaching $14.5 million CAD ($10.6 million USD) with a total of 262,000 paid subscribers. Despite these gains, the company recorded a net loss of $76.8 million CAD ($56.6 million USD), up from $52 million CAD ($38.3 million USD) in 2021. This decline was exacerbated by operating costs climbing to $119 million CAD ($87.7 million USD) and a $31.2 million CAD ($23 million USD) goodwill impairment.
Quarterly performance for Q4 2022 showed a 5% revenue decrease compared to the same period in 2021, which the company attributed to lower digital advertising CPMs. However, gross profit for the quarter still improved by 32%. By the end of the fiscal year, the company’s cash on hand had decreased to $7.4 million CAD ($5.4 million USD), down from $22.6 million CAD ($16.6 million USD) at the end of 2021. These results reflect the broader challenges faced by digital media and esports entities navigating fluctuating advertising markets and rising operational expenditures.
