The Spanish video game industry experienced a robust 12.09% total growth in 2024, reaching a total revenue of 2.012 billion euros. This expansion is driven by a significant 29% surge in online revenue, which effectively offsets a 5.7% decline in offline sales. The market remains supported by a substantial user base of 18.2 million players, maintaining a relatively balanced gender distribution of 53% men and 47% women. While engagement remains high, the average weekly playtime has decreased by 8% compared to the previous year, settling at 7.42 hours per week, a figure that places Spain behind European counterparts like Germany, the United Kingdom, and France.
The industry infrastructure comprises 618 active development studios, collectively employing 6,187 professionals. When accounting for indirect roles, the sector supports approximately 32,000 jobs across the country. Hardware and software sales remain strong, with over 7 million console games and 841,944 consoles sold during the period. Esports also represent a vital segment of the ecosystem, generating 34 million euros in revenue and providing employment for 820 individuals.
Market penetration is most pronounced among younger demographics, with 84% of individuals aged 11 to 14 and 79% of those aged 6 to 11 identifying as players. Interest tapers off in older age brackets, though 31% of individuals aged 45 to 64 remain active. Sport, action, role-playing, and adventure titles currently dominate the preferences of the Spanish gaming audience. These findings illustrate a maturing market that is successfully transitioning toward digital-first consumption while maintaining a solid foundation in both domestic development and hardware retail.
