The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and the ESL FACEIT Group have announced the details for the second season of eFIBA, the official tournament series for the NBA 2K24 video game. This initiative aims to expand the global footprint of competitive basketball esports by doubling the number of participating national federations compared to the inaugural season.
The tournament features 61 nations competing across seven distinct regions: Africa, the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Oceania, and South East Asia. The competition utilizes a 5v5 Pro-Am game mode on the PlayStation 5 platform. The schedule is structured into online Regional Qualifiers running from October 3 to November 2, 2023, followed by Regional Finals held between November 7 and November 9. Winners from these regional events, along with the top two teams from Europe, will advance to the in-person eFIBA Season 2 World Finals. This culminating LAN event is scheduled for November 25–26, 2023, at DreamHack Winter in Jönköping, Sweden, where participants will compete for a total prize pool of €50,000.
By scaling the event to include 61 nations, the organizers are significantly increasing the international reach of their esports programming. The tournament serves as a primary vehicle for FIBA to engage with the gaming community through a structured, professionalized competitive circuit that mirrors traditional international sports formats.
