Sega Sammy Holdings
Sega Sammy Holdings reported its financial results for the first quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2026, highlighting a performance that exceeded initial expectations despite a limited release schedule for new titles. The company achieved consolidated sales of 81.0 billion yen, with operating income at -0.5 billion yen. The results were bolstered by strong initial contributions from the Pachislot and Pachinko segments, while the Entertainment Contents business performed in line with projections.
The company’s strategic focus during this period centered on expanding its global footprint through significant M&A activity, specifically the acquisition of Stakelogic and GAN. These investments, totaling approximately 36 billion yen, are intended to strengthen the Gaming business, with integration and goodwill amortization currently under review. Additionally, the company demonstrated a commitment to shareholder returns by completing the acquisition of 3.8 million shares and the cancellation of 20 million treasury shares during the quarter.
Performance across segments showed varied results. The Entertainment Contents business, which remains the primary revenue driver, saw steady performance from titles like Persona 5: The Phantom X, though repeat sales for certain full-game titles and Rovio’s performance fell slightly short of internal targets. Conversely, the Pachislot and Pachinko business outperformed expectations, driven by successful new machine installations. The Gaming segment also showed positive momentum, with increased unit sales in North America and Asia, alongside strong performance from the Paradise Sega Sammy casino operations.
Looking ahead, the company is prioritizing the launch of several mainstay titles across its consumer and F2P portfolios, including new entries in the Sonic and Yakuza franchises. Management maintains a positive outlook, supported by a capital allocation policy that emphasizes development investment in core IPs and growth pillars, alongside a shareholder return policy targeting a dividend on equity (DOE) of 3% or more or a total return ratio of 50% or higher.
