Nexon’s financial results for the second quarter of 2024 demonstrate significant growth, characterized by a 30% year-over-year revenue increase to ¥122.4 billion. Operating income rose by 64% to ¥45.2 billion, while net profit grew by 63% to ¥39.8 billion. This performance was primarily driven by the mobile segment, which saw a 125% revenue surge, offsetting a 13% decline in PC-based earnings.
Geographically, China emerged as the company's top revenue-generating region, recording a 209% year-over-year increase to ¥56.3 billion. This growth was largely fueled by the successful launch of DnF Mobile, which significantly bolstered the Dungeon & Fighter franchise. Conversely, revenue in South Korea declined by 21%, impacted by tough year-over-year comparisons and reduced performance in titles such as MapleStory and FC Online. Meanwhile, North America, Europe, and Japan showed positive growth, supported by titles like The Finals, Blue Archive, and HIT: The World.
To sustain this momentum, the company has introduced an "IP Growth Initiative" strategy. This approach focuses on two primary pillars: leveraging existing intellectual property by expanding franchises across new platforms and markets, and developing new core IPs, such as The First Descendant. The company maintains a robust development pipeline, including upcoming titles like The First Berserker: Khazan, Mabinogi Mobile, and various projects in partnership with Tencent for the Chinese market. These efforts reflect a broader commitment to "snowballing" franchise growth through genre diversification and global market penetration.
