KLab
KLab’s financial results for the second quarter of 2018 demonstrate a period of sustained high revenue alongside strategic investments in global expansion and game development. The company recorded 8,059 million yen in consolidated revenue, marking its second-highest quarterly revenue in history and a 1.7% increase over the previous quarter. Operating profit reached 1,247 million yen, representing a 7.2% decline quarter-over-quarter, largely driven by increased outsourcing, subcontracting, and promotional expenditures associated with new title development and international marketing efforts.
The primary driver of performance during this period was the mobile title Captain Tsubasa: Dream Team, which achieved record-breaking overseas revenue of approximately 3 billion yen. This success underscores the company’s core strategy of leveraging Japanese intellectual property for global markets. While revenue from other established titles like Love Live! School Idol Festival and Bleach: Brave Souls experienced slight declines compared to the previous quarter, the company maintained a robust pipeline of upcoming releases, including Magatsu Wahrheit and YU☆YU☆HAKUSHO 100% Maji Battle.
Reflecting a cautious outlook regarding the timing of new game launches, KLab revised its full-year FY2018 guidance downward. The company now projects annual revenue between 30,000 and 33,000 million yen, with operating profit forecasted between 2,750 and 4,250 million yen. This revision is attributed to the prioritization of game quality over release speed. Moving forward, the company remains committed to a three-pillar strategy: maximizing the value of Japanese intellectual property, accelerating global growth through localized releases, and fostering original content creation to diversify its portfolio and ensure long-term stability.
