Kadokawa achieved record financial performance for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2022, characterized by a 5.4% increase in net sales and a substantial 35.9% growth in operating profit. This success was primarily propelled by the global launch of the video game Elden Ring, which reached 13.4 million units in worldwide shipments, alongside double-digit growth in the publication segment’s e-book and international divisions. These results allowed the company to meet its medium-term operating profit targets one year ahead of schedule, establishing a strong foundation for future expansion.

The company’s strategic trajectory centers on a Global Media Mix, which leverages intellectual property across publishing, animation, and gaming to maximize reach. International sales rose by 33% during this period, underscoring the effectiveness of this cross-media approach. While the company anticipates a slight decline in operating profit for the upcoming fiscal year due to the cyclical nature of game releases and increased strategic investments, it remains committed to long-term growth. Management has set ambitious targets of 250 billion yen in net sales and 25 billion yen in operating profit by fiscal year 2025.
