Gamecity Hamburg successfully facilitated a significant presence for the local gaming sector at gamescom 2019 in Cologne. The initiative aimed to bolster the visibility of Hamburg-based developers and startups on the global stage, providing a platform for networking, business development, and industry collaboration. By hosting a dedicated 232-square-meter joint booth, the organization supported seven regional companies in showcasing their projects to an international audience.
The event featured two primary networking functions: a traditional reception for trade visitors and the inaugural Games Compass Hamburg, organized in partnership with InnoGames. These gatherings attracted over 500 guests, including industry leaders and decision-makers, fostering connections between established firms and emerging talent. The booth design, which integrated open lounge areas with private conference spaces, received positive feedback for its ability to accommodate both casual networking and formal business meetings.
Beyond the main exhibition space, Gamecity Hamburg provided critical support to two emerging indie teams, Bagpack Games and Team Octofox, by securing their participation in the Indie Arena Booth. This strategic placement allowed these smaller developers to gain exposure within the high-traffic entertainment area of the trade fair. The overall effort underscored a commitment to strengthening the Hamburg games ecosystem by bridging the gap between local innovation and international market opportunities.
