Distilling the key insights…
Nippon Ichi Software’s financial results for the first quarter of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2021, reflect a period of operational growth despite the broader economic challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. During the three-month period ending June 30, 2020, the company achieved net sales of 1,064 million yen, representing a 39.1% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. Operating profit rose slightly to 160 million yen, a 1.9% year-over-year increase, while ordinary profit grew by 31.7% to 157 million yen. However, quarterly net profit attributable to owners of the parent company declined by 7.5% to 76 million yen.
The company’s performance was driven by its core business of computer software development, manufacturing, and sales. During this quarter, the company released two domestic packaged titles, "Boku Hime Project" and "Shoujo Jigoku no Doku Musume," while continuing development on upcoming titles such as "Yoru, Tomosu," "MAD RAT DEAD," and "Galleria no Chika Meikyu to Majo no Ryodan." Operations also included digital distribution via platforms like PlayStation Network, Nintendo eShop, and Steam, alongside international localization efforts and contract development services.
The financial position remained stable, with total assets reaching 5,095 million yen and a capital adequacy ratio of 70.1%. While the company noted that the pandemic caused production and shipping delays for hardware and software, it also observed an increase in home-based gaming demand. Due to ongoing market uncertainty, the company has not provided a full-year earnings forecast, citing the difficulty of making reasonable calculations at this stage. The results were prepared in accordance with Japanese accounting standards and were not subject to a quarterly audit review.
