Square Enix Holdings reported strong financial growth for the three-month period ending June 30, 2010, marking a significant recovery compared to the same period in the previous year. Net sales reached 32,540 million yen, a 10.7% increase year-on-year. Operating income surged to 5,434 million yen, representing an 814.4% increase, while the company transitioned from a net loss of 1,672 million yen in the prior year to a net income of 1,812 million yen.
The company’s performance was driven primarily by the Digital Entertainment segment, which generated 16,626 million yen in sales and 5,891 million yen in operating income. Key contributors included the successful launch of "DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: Joker 2" and the continued market strength of "FINAL FANTASY XIII" and "Just Cause 2." Conversely, the Amusement segment faced ongoing challenges, recording 10,978 million yen in sales and 683 million yen in operating income amid difficult market conditions for arcade operations. The Publication and Merchandising segments provided stable contributions, with Publication generating 4,038 million yen in sales.
The financial position remained stable with total assets of 254,876 million yen and an equity ratio of 58.8%. Operating activities provided 4,339 million yen in cash, a substantial improvement over the previous year’s negative cash flow. The company maintained its previously announced consolidated forecasts for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2011, projecting net sales of 160,000 million yen and operating income of 20,000 million yen. The results reflect the adoption of new accounting standards regarding asset retirement obligations and segment disclosures, which were implemented during this quarter.
