Square Enix
The Square Enix financial results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026, demonstrate a strategic shift toward improved profitability despite a contraction in overall net sales. The company reported net sales of 297.6 billion yen, a decrease from the previous year’s 324.5 billion yen. Conversely, operating income rose significantly to 54.7 billion yen, up from 40.5 billion yen, resulting in an improved operating income margin of 18.4%. This performance reflects a successful focus on cost optimization and operational efficiency across the group’s diverse business segments.
The Digital Entertainment segment, the company’s primary revenue driver, saw net sales decline to 172.8 billion yen due to lower contributions from MMO titles and smart device games compared to the prior year. However, the segment’s operating income grew to 43.3 billion yen. This was bolstered by strong performance in the HD Games category, which saw a substantial profit increase driven by steady sales of new titles and a robust catalog. Total unit sales for the segment reached 26.68 million units, with North America and Europe remaining the largest markets for software distribution.
Other business segments showed mixed results. The Amusement segment experienced growth, with net sales reaching 72.1 billion yen and operating income rising to 8.8 billion yen, supported by higher same-store sales and increased demand for prize items. The Merchandising segment also performed well, with operating income climbing to 11.2 billion yen, largely due to royalty income from key intellectual properties. In contrast, the Publication segment faced a slight decline, with net sales falling to 29.7 billion yen as comic book sales softened. The company maintains a cautious outlook, noting that future results remain subject to economic conditions, currency fluctuations, and evolving consumer preferences in highly competitive global markets.
