Zynga achieved record financial performance in the first quarter of 2019, reporting total gross mobile game bookings of $278.4 million, representing an 85 percent increase over the same period in 2018. This growth was primarily fueled by the strategic acquisition of Gram Games and Small Giant Games. Specifically, the titles Merge Dragons and Empires & Puzzles served as the primary catalysts for this success, accounting for approximately 46 percent of the company's total mobile bookings during the quarter. While the remainder of the publisher's portfolio experienced largely flat growth, these two acquired titles achieved a cumulative revenue increase of nearly 200 percent compared to the previous year.

The analysis highlights a shift in monetization strategy, particularly regarding Empires & Puzzles. The title contributed to a record $96 million increase in deferred revenue, driven by a sophisticated model that incorporates an in-depth RPG structure and a recurring "VIP Pass" system. The findings are based on Store Intelligence metrics, which track revenue and download estimates while excluding third-party Android stores and pre-installed applications.
