Create free accounti'm making a rage platformer where you go up against an evil ai that predicts your movement we've been at this for four years now and the game is finally about to come out been wanting to make a new devlog for quite a while problem is everything i'm working on is either spoilers or boring stuff that's why this final will you snail their vlog will be a little different i want to show you a day in the life of an indie game developer in the time before launch i'm very nervous slanty make thirsty face are you thirsty are you thirsty are you sure you i kind of turned everything on right and now i'm like time for breakfast it's kind of ironic that the last will you snail deadlock is where i can show you the least amount of stuff but honestly maybe it's even a great chance to make a type of devlog that didn't even cross my mind before alright that was something i was almost done with let's do that you know right this is the fun stuff we're dealing with here that's the privacy policy and ironically the privacy policy kind of screws my privacy because in theory i have to put my full address here finally found a legal work around so we're gonna implement that now
are you prepared for the most insane will you snail feature you don't believe there's a privacy policy button now i'm gonna actually rename this game from williamsnail to privacy policy game oh and it works oh my god take that little piece now i have the choice between coming up with some trailer concept making a press kit figuring out system requirements or reading the discord feedback your little piece of i hope you guys didn't find any new box or something oh no oh no what is this oh no no what is this where do you ban people why does search not work there is no hotkey for streamer mode this is a scam okay it's now time to have a look at a chat i really don't like having a look at which is feedback that's when i see what are all of the screw-ups that i still have to fix and i'm sure there are plenty okay now that we have all of my new tasks in trello i'm gonna sort them a little bit
[Music] so this is my to-do list and as you can see it's absolutely infinite it never ends and whenever i work through these there'll be new ones well at the very least that means we can cross this off now definitely did that now i have to decide the most fun thing to do would be trailers the least fun thing to do would be fixing bugs so what is it going to be what is it going to be or actually it could also be taking a break because it's a 3 pm already look at that i'm wearing real pants mom hope you're proud i was starting to feel a little stressed out by all of the bugs ah yeah then there was a problem with the russian translation as well i really have the urge to push back the release date again but i shouldn't it's a huge problem with the translations just i never know if they're any good or not i don't know what you're talking about i don't know russian and then you know someday somebody tells me my my russian steam store page looks completely screwed different translators say different things and i
basically have no clue of figuring it out a giant pile of dirt wow just like my game look at that so i think i need to get my priorities right focus on what's important for the launch you know there are billions and billions of improvement suggestions from play testers i think i'll just have to fix the worst ones and then you know just get it out at some point because we can't continue the cycle forever right we've we've been in development limbo for probably two years now it's time to stab i hope you know this is that is a very short game and it's by no means perfect it's very much an indie game like when i started making this game i didn't really know what i was doing at all like when i look back at my first step locks now it's very weird i hope that in five years i'll look back and cringe at what i make today man i don't know where i got this from but i think it's
very true if you don't cringe at your old stuff then that's that's a sign that you didn't improve enough wow this is almost therapy therapeutic i think it's the word right i'm scared to look behind me oh thank god the guy behind me didn't catch up that would have been so weird oh thank god snake detective i think this is a great time to start a 90 minute timer with trailer stuff saw a very interesting video from derek lew lately where he showed how he blocks out um trailers i think i want to try that facing a blank timeline is probably the most difficult part of editing a trailer the descriptors i use in these outline footage wondering where it will go in the trailer actually really helps me imagine how this is going to look like a cool way of doing this and then i also know exactly what i need to record later on that's that's pretty great let me let me block this out i'll uh stop screen recording and then i'll show you what i got oh my
timer is ringing yeah that's kind of good i think it's going in a good direction i always wait with uh cooking till i'm completely hungry i'm so hungry now now we need food fast fast no that's not how it works we'll cook this so for this video i tried to make my food look halfway appetizing today and yeah it almost worked i'm surprised there are a couple of things i can do very quickly so start with those just to get some tickets done that was easy and then somebody complained that the eyes are offset okay that's fair enough i agree it actually looks better then my
next ticket says if you change the color scheme while the boss animation is playing the color scheme becomes messed up oh the color scheme gets messed up but it's fixed in the next level zone toilet break i still don't know what the solution could be all right i need to do it the other way around such an idiot now this is even weirder this i eventually decided to just move on ignore the bug for now you know some bugs are just not worth fixing i tried to use my time wisely and made some changes to how frequently squid opens his mouth that's why i did another 30 minutes of play testing to check if that felt about right i finished the play testing doesn't even really feel like squid is talking less i almost feel like he's talking the same amount he's spoiler territory but it's packed so i have to fix it yeah fix it go ahead [Music] you don't even know how spot on you were with that i think i'll worry about the
rest another time because now i'm gonna do some paperwork why can you not save it as pdf you dumb piece of i think it is time for the robe what do we have here wow these are the real tricks of pro developers might as well make it comfy in front of your screen i would say this day was fairly successful now my day still has a couple of hours left those will be spent on pointless media consumption you know what i'm talking about because you're probably doing the exact same thing right now one more thing little skywalker you have to wish list will use nail on steam and join the will you snail this card because this place gonna be a lot of [Music] i can fun and hire universes
millions of them in fact
The final stages of indie game development involve a transition from creative design to the administrative and technical rigors of a commercial launch. After four years of development on a rage platformer featuring an antagonistic artificial intelligence, the primary focus shifts to finalizing legal requirements, such as privacy policies, and managing the infinite loop of bug fixing and community feedback. This period is characterized by the necessity of prioritizing critical issues over minor polish, as the developer must balance the desire for perfection against the practical need to exit development limbo and release the product.
Key operational challenges during this pre-launch phase include navigating localization issues, such as verifying the quality of foreign language translations, and managing the overwhelming influx of suggestions from playtesters. The workflow relies heavily on task management tools like Trello to organize an endless stream of fixes. Strategic decision-making becomes essential, as developers must determine which bugs are worth the time investment and which can be deferred or ignored to maintain a viable release schedule.
The process also highlights the importance of structured marketing preparation, specifically the creation of trailers. Utilizing professional techniques like storyboarding and blocking out footage before recording helps mitigate the difficulty of editing. Ultimately, the experience underscores the iterative nature of game development, where the developer acknowledges that early work may eventually seem unrefined, viewing this growth as a necessary sign of professional improvement. The final phase is defined by a pragmatic approach to project management, where the goal is to deliver a functional, enjoyable experience rather than an unattainable standard of perfection.
