Create free accounthey guys how's it going my name is thomas bresch and i make indie games for a living most of you know this but i have a school called full-time game dev um i have over 2 500 students worldwide and we recently did a private game jam for that community don't worry we're going to be doing a massive game jam for this community open to all of my youtube subscribers but i did have a private game jam with my students and the theme was the golden rule so i want to play those games we're going to start with the first winning game and then the second place in third place and by the way guys just remember leave a comment below about what you thought about these games be encouraging be kind it's really really scary launching a game even if it's just a game jam game so be sure to well play the games using the link below but also just leave a comment and be encouraging all right let's jump into the first game [Applause] all right this game is called get yeaton by overcharm studios this is the winner of
the full-time game dev game jam so congratulations get eaten let's hit play i love the feel of this game it feels so great and this is such a good example of how to take simplistic art simplistic music and turn it into something that's really really special hi i'm the sign painter my name is mike i'm going to call you jimmy that's great so we've got humor um very simplistic humor it reminds me of undertale and i'm i have a feeling that the simplicity of this game and also the humor is why it won you could throw rocks with the left mouse button okay you could probably already figure that out you'll probably already figure that out just remember it means to throw rocks at people oh it's mean to throw rocks at people
feel free to do it though all right so we've got some golden rule adherence here just remember the golden rule eat onto others what you would have femme yeet onto you all right so we need to treat this guy the same way that i expect to be treated right nice so he throws a rock at you if you throw a rocket him i like it [Music] okay cool stuck here it's a rule worth remembering apparently nice [Music] come here buddy okay [Music] awesome nice [Music]
let's keep going here come on come on come on nice impressive [Music] nice you're getting the hang of this very good oh that's a big pit [Music] oh shh okay hold on i got this [Music] wow that nice joke wow that rocked very good all right let's keep going here oh where we're going oh nice use of lighting here you know we are nearly at the end of the tunnel now i'm starting to sweat hold on [Music] oh gosh
[Music] the movement's kind of slippery i'll be honest it's a little slippery maybe try and tweak that just a little bit okay all right well this is it thanks for reading my signs i hope you enjoyed throwing rocks at things jimmy never forget the golden rule jimmy i will never forget you before we end this game i want to say i think the obviously the golden rule theme was hit perfectly with this game again if you're gonna throw rocks at people just be expected expect rocks to be thrown at you that's the golden rule kind of a twist on the golden rule actually [Applause] all right so this game is called are you human um this is second place
the visuals of this game right off the bat are beautiful all right it's called are you human please select every human in this scene to start this is great what a great just subtle addition to this game just in the main menu don't underestimate the value of main menus okay that's our captcha so let's oh i love how that feels very clicky good game feel here great loading bar the humans are long gone replaced by technology in an attempt to create robots with human feelings this new civilization is testing one thing caring about others very good in these tests if you hurt another robot you'll be hurt too this is a threat very good we got great main menu we got an introductory sequence with uh some elements of story beautiful all right let's see here lava is hot this is a known fact
among robots all right press any key to start okay this is a known fact among robots nice golden rule you have been programmed to receive as much damage as they do grab the nice little robot and save it from the lava and the spikes okay [Music] so i drag and press maybe i do that press space oh okay so i just tagged that guy awesome i see the robot saves the humans it tags them manipulation caring doesn't mean you shouldn't use them all right i guess i'm going to drag you oh let's get the coins first [Music] nice okay let's keep going interactable anything with an arrow
would move one day any moment now okay let's uh if i do it over here i'm gonna die there so i need to put it here okay great sounds beautiful awesome good job way to go gabby i love that game feel ooh we got music change i like it press any key to start [Music] looks like i'm gonna have to race yes nice i like that puzzle very cool puzzle okay huh [Music] i guess we just got a race whoa [Music] good i got the coin even though i got
the door press any key to start i love the concept of this game very cool uh whoa okay sorry whatever um whoa [Music] wait wait wait wait wait wait wait what do i do here [Music] wait wait wait hold on hold on hold on i think i got to put that there okay here we go oh so close come on thomas can't even beat your own students games my goodness [Music] okay watch out watch out watch out nice gabby good job that's um [Music]
oh gosh get beat thomas grow up thomas grow up all right put this over here great concept here i love this game very cool [Music] here we go here we go nice huh [Music] ah hello [Music] mother emperor and then this friend over here okay here we go test result you would be a good human that's awesome [Applause]
all right overall i love the menu here wow that's just beautiful um so it looks like this game was made in unreal um the creator reached out let me know that it was unreal um graphics are just the best of the three games for sure um now obviously it's a 3d game so it's a little different in comparing it to a 2d game but i think overall the graphics for this game are the best they're really really pretty also the game feel is awesome the clicking uh the clicky punchy game feel um really love this game and by the way i'm watching a video because the i couldn't get the game to play on my machine but the creator sent me him playing the game but it's just great the game feels awesome i will say from a thematic perspective i'm not so sure that this adheres to the golden rule as well as get ye [Music] and are you human but the graphics and the the feel the
game feel and the graphics really make up for any sort of lack of cohesion or lack of following the theme of the golden rule so um and that's okay you know everybody should leaned into their strengths and i think the graphics and the this the game feel here is awesome from a sound perspective i really like how how punchy the sound effects are the gun sound i wish the gun sound was a little bit more punchy but the the explosion sound effects and the um collecting items sound effect i think that's what that was that oh that sound yeah the kicking sound is really great that feels awesome and also did you guys notice the effect just the subtle camera effect it sort of glitches when you get hurt um if you have a very low budget as an indie game developer and also just very limited time right for a game jam
using ragdoll physics that's awesome there we go that's that's a great game but using ragdoll physics is definitely your best friend when you have a limited time and limited budget because the code is already there right it's ready to go um so from a graphics perspective and a game feel perspective mimikis wins in my book but from following a theme to the golden rule not so much at least from what i could gather all right thanks for watching guys again be sure to leave an encouraging comment about the game jam entries click that link to play those games and i will talk to you guys later bye [Music] [Music] you
This summary examines the outcomes of a private game jam conducted for the Full-Time Game Dev community, which serves over 2,500 students globally. The event challenged participants to design games centered on the theme of the Golden Rule. The analysis highlights the top three entries, evaluating them based on thematic adherence, game feel, visual design, and technical execution within the constraints of a short-term development cycle.
The winning entry, Get Yeetin, is noted for its effective use of simplistic art and humor to create an engaging experience. The game successfully integrates the Golden Rule by mechanically linking the player’s actions to the consequences they receive, demonstrating how minimalist design can be leveraged to create a cohesive and enjoyable product. The second-place entry, Are You Human, is praised for its high-quality user interface, including a creative captcha-style main menu, and its well-executed puzzle mechanics that reinforce the theme through shared damage systems between the player and non-player characters.
The third-place entry, Mimicus, is highlighted for its superior 3D graphics and polished game feel, particularly its use of ragdoll physics to maximize production value under limited time and budget constraints. While the game excels in technical execution and audio-visual feedback, it is noted as having a weaker thematic connection to the Golden Rule compared to the other winners. Overall, the event serves as a case study in indie development, emphasizing that successful game jam projects often rely on strong core mechanics, intuitive user interfaces, and the strategic use of existing physics engines to overcome the limitations of rapid development.
