Pine Harbor: Steam Next Fest October 2023

welcome this is the super duper spooky cast I'm doing Pine Harbor for Friday the 13th it's Friday folks it is another live stream here that we are doing for the games of steam nextfest I am doing SPO gam that's just Pine Harbor it sounds so nice Pine Harbor oh so beautiful uh just you know uh let's bring the kids come on let's go bring the kids to Pine Harbor um you know the kids love it there they always have that ice cream shop right off of Main Street that's what it is that's what we're doing um so I'm I'm gonna be streaming Pine Harbor um it obviously not the the wonderful beautiful uh Pine Harbor that we all know and love it as kids um

so come on in uh so here's what we're going to do and the sound is still a bit low well I found out that I have to push a button to make it go so I hope this is better I move the the the thing a little bit closer I hope I hope that'll do let me know how the Sound Works I'm going to give it a few minutes because I I want to be fully submersed how's that sound Indie Ben uh what I did was I have a Focus right there's a button that says loud or not well it's 24 volt or something why would I ever turn that button off come on like come on it should just be called does your mic work or not do you want your mic to work um and it's like ah better yeah it's just the thing I why would you have a button that says it doesn't work that's stupid just just don't even have that button just just always make it work fixed it right there all right folks I'm not here to talk about audio because it's always so stupid everything about audio is so stupid okay let's play this horror game Pine Harbor all right so um here's here's the here's the long and short of

how um Steam Works is like you said for Indie Games most steam players like crafty buildy simulation games games that are very deep they could play over and over and over for hours and the problem is a lot of Indies make linear games I don't know why well here's my theory is that it comes down to we play a lot of linear games we play a lot of AAA games we play a lot of Nintendo games and Nintendo and AAA games are all linear and so we're like okay well video games are linear that's video games are but uh uhuh they're not the people on Steam like deep simulation buildy crafty sandbox games there's one exception to the craft ability simulation he play over and over again horror games well there's two horror games and visual novels those are the two that you can do a linear game where they play like through the content and once you're through the content it's done and horror games is one of them because it's Friday the 13th and it's Halloween time and it's steam nextfest I'm going to be playing a horror game so

get ready I don't know if I'm going to be scared or not um so let's do it I picked Pine Harbor I just picked it because it it looked cool it looked creepy and so I'm going to do pine Harbor um let's do it let's get started so I'm just going to push play um I hope this isn't too dark and spooky um let's see here oh um couple things I'm using the controller just because it's like I don't know but for some reason it's not okay so controller doesn't seem to fully work with this game I mean I know it's it's it's a demo so not everything works but okay so that doesn't work um now here's a couple things um one thing it's menus uh we're we're also coming from a perspective of marketers but look add to wish list that button's good but come on I like to make it straight up there just put another button I even put on the top of but call to action of wish list then play Then settings and exit and they're calling out there who who wants link to Twitter anymore who even

wants to do that anymore what what are you doing drive them to people you own maybe a mailing list sign up discord's all right I don't love Discord but the big one is this one I'd put that right up front and if you look at the the order that they go through I can't move over to that thing with a controller so always make it so that your primary call to action which is wish list should be uh within within controller movement but I'm going to use the mouse it looks like it seems like the controllers don't fully isn't fully represent which is fine I know it's under um it's a demo written in red so let's do this Pine [Music] Harbor okay I am uh I'm just I'm just spooking it out here um we got we got some some wood some good Bas way to start just right scary oh look at that oh oh look at that water oh

ah just turn it off a little spooky okay um let's see here um inventory I'm just just kind of going through some controllers oh I got a pickaxe and a pistol um oh here we go shotgun um let's see here how oh yeah there just a pickax I mean if I'm gonna be deep in a basement I'm going with a pickaxe I don't know am I the monster or they if if I'm the monster that Echo effect is really neat okay um let's see here there I can't switch to the gun I don't again I think the controls aren't fully working for this game I feel like up is not working I can switch down and that so the pistol's just not working I don't know why we'll see if I need to I'm just going to switch over the pistol on on my keyboard here but let's let's continue on through this creepy Place let's go creepy all right storage is is just

creepy well organized storage in any other time I mean very good um storage techniques lot lot of shelving this guy is it's like myy condo's basement I think we're in it's like just good storage well organized I mean it is I think if you squared it up this place has potential it really does um a lot of storage not a lot of stuff the guy's just prepared for a stor but I spooky spooky I think the spooky part is how prepared this guy is for storage he's not actually doesn't need to store anything he's just prepared for bodies maybe he's going to store bodies in there we don't know I mean if I'm going in a haunted house I'd want a little bit of liquor to bring me through I don't know if this they're holding some liquor in there but anyway let's let's continue on totally normal to have a vault in your basement all right let's see here a little mess hall again a lot of good storage a lot of good Furniture a lot of good wood let's see what's back here supplies all right all right let's see what this says maybe we can do a little

environmental storytelling to find out what's in there Valk valem Corporation supplies okay just some chemicals nothing ever bad happens if you got chemicals totally normal totally normal good conduits good good that is following code that is that is some good conduits okay let's see if we can get into this break this shelving this excessive shelving no can I get into it um okay let's let's again very good code work up to code very up to code okay let's continue on here do I am I heading back no okay okay we're in the bedding section here let's follow this this conduit through this totally not spooky totally not spooky let's see still up to C very good layout of those conduits okay um let's see here okay that's red it's getting spooky when it gets red that means trouble's right there do not follow me

shim Christmas that was a warning shot not to follow him but you know what if there's anything I've learned from horror films it's like maybe I should follow them all right let's let's carry on here look at this oh fuse fuse I think it's I think it's push f for use is that they want to fuse or it's Ed with an F I think it's okay okay I think that's using is not working because the three wires the ground green is ground hot is red I think blue is control I can't remember I don't remember I haven't I haven't done a light socket in a while so um let's see here let's check this out the cool thing is controls very very slow which I like if something doesn't work you just hit that with that pickaxe there again really prepared for storage really ready if they ever need

to control stuff okay let's obviously that's not working let me see if I can follow on this way lot of bottles here let's see now um back to marketing uh we are going to stop in a few minutes to look at their steam page maybe dissect how they're doing I I did do some searching uh and this game is doing quite well marketing wise as all horror games do as far as media um let's see I think I came into this way because that was where the the excellent layout of the conduits very up to code um so going to continue down this way where he said do not follow me so I'm definitely going to follow this guy again more storage than they need the bottle not not quite a good layout I mean you got plenty of storage why not line them up um okay okay okay all right let's come come on come on dude let's do this bring it what's this that that's going to scrape your arm all right all right okay um all right so let's let's go through

here this is great a great great environment here okay more supplies oh little Li smoke oh perfect place this is this is the corner office right here this got his coffee mug what's the coffee mug say it's like up Mondays again right oh no it's chem Corp chem Corp you know I would not want this office okay let's fuse this confirm Pine Harbor Mining Company all right oh oh there's a little combo one two incorrect password let's see if we can just find this real quick um let's open some files if video games have taught me anything it's that the passcode is in the desk immediately next to the safe all right let's see here um I'm just going to skip that let's see if there's anything obviously environmental clue that the passcode is okay uh nothing okay let's see here fuses a nice

beer ad to kind of liven up the place and a giant corpse it looks like Oogie Boogie giant Cronin Borg corpse um let's let's just hit there oh not not oh not good and boots that guy's does not need boots that that man does not need boots oh and some uh this is he's a 1980s teenager um hiding in his uh bedroom all right um he's got his closet he's just blobbing out back there um all right so I wonder if that was the guy that was like do not follow me CU I'm just going to hide in this blob um let's see here let's see more let's see was I was I supposed to interact with that guy all right let's let's

go still hiding back in here oh wait is that a secret code right there 226 7 726 no I don't think the what that just blinked did you see that did you just see that blink all right let's let's continue on here okay let's let's go look at Oogie Boogie Blobby all right how you doing dude oh you're looking really Blobby I hope there's not a passcode that I have to look at oh not not good not good Blobby what's over here not not good what's this down here I was looking for some Clues maybe some passcode clues or something um fuse boxes now here is one thing and this is one of the reasons why linear and puzzle games don't do well I'm kind of of stuck and as a streamer you kind of get stuck

and this is why puzzle games aren't always attractive to the streaming Community is because you get stuck and you're like well I can't find the combo now I'm going to stick with it and we're going to talk marketing but just so you know folks this is why puzzle games don't always oh oh no oh no you you are not oh God I'm really sorry about your condition here oh sorry about your condition do you have a passcode though is there a tattoo you got boots on so you're official worker um okay probably not good he just kind of crept over here so anyway where I was going um sorry if if you two are related um this is why uh you know streamers just don't like puzzle games but they'll go with the creepy because you know when a puzzle kind of gets stuck you got a guy that is a giant renberg mess comes

after you and you can fight him so that's kind of why horror games actually do okay you can put some puzzle stuff in horror games all right I'm I'm I'm facing a dead end here so I'm G to I'm going to turn around and just head out somewhere else I'm going to follow these conduits um but anyway that's kind of where it is now I've got to fill time because I'm I'm stuck and I'm going to keep going around in circles and so that's just so that you oh did you guys hear that B6 oh the showers bathrooms nothing ever bad happens in a bathroom oh come on Blobby Blobby yeah horror games that that is a horror game all right back okay we are going to we are just going to I'm I'm bringing out the big guns this time all right we know I know you you know we know what it is I know where Blobby is we're going to

go straight to the showers he's going to tell us not to follow him we got it so this is horror games this is good but if you notice you can do this I think horror games are one of the best genres that new Indies can take because I mean the the level design is great but it's not as complicated you don't have to invent a new genre like this is great horror games they don't have to um you don't have to come up some great new mechanic you don't have to like um do not follow me I'm going to follow you yeah I knew it didn't hurt I knew it didn't hurt this time buddy yep yeah you're not going to fool me oh there you are let's do it bring it bring it bring it I'm just going to let you he's kind of got a s get right I'm sorry missed you oh great girl I just duck down greatness all right I think I'm crouching right

whoa yeah just casually reloading here well I'm out of those now it's back to pickaxe Charlie um anyway um so like I was saying the the game design is not you don't have to like reinvent the genre again I love like you're not like oh it's going to be this interesting mix of puzzle games and crossword puzzles and it's just like it's a creepy quarter and a guy that just looks like a mess is coming after me I think I'm still crouching I can't tell um and so it's it's it's great for beginners because you can just be like all right what's our creepy hallway what's our creepy guy gon to be Let's Do It um how bloody [ __ ] can we make this game and that is kind of what you're judge on no not not to say this is easy it's still this is a hard industry um but you can make a lot with a little with a horror game it's not I feel like it's just not

as you don't IND these take hard mode they try and like reinvent the genre okay we're back to the corner office this is definitely going to have some mold um all right let's see here there's old Blobby oh God I am ducked down I think let's see what these controls I'm out of those bullets let's look rotate oh we got I love I love inventory Tetris that's just like one of my favorite things in video games and they got it um unfortunately this game has a bit of I think I'm standing now I feel like I'm standing now I'm just kind of measuring my height based on this blob and I feel like I was at eye level I can't tell if I'm crouching or not I think I am but you know what the thing is those monsters were kind of missing me because I was ducking down so I'm G might I might kind of stay crouched uh I can zoom um I just feel like I'm going a little slower I'm pushing all the buttons here let me I just feel a little crouched I feel a

little I feel like I'm kind of I'm just kind of duck walking my way through this horror uh but anyway okay let's see B1 I'm looking for B6 come on oh oh yeah I am definitely crouched but I'm just going to nail this guy right in the old pants come on come on right right in the old Noggin all there's always a buddy it's like scorpions there's always two two there's always two there's always two all right we got it this time we got it we got it how we doing on time at the half an hour mark I might we got another 20 minutes let's do this okay I'm I'm gonna I'm using the pickaxe we're doing the pick we're going to observe the storage still good storage still plenty of room to expand all right we're going to do this come on Blobby go through the mess hall through the mes Hall observe the good conduits we know we know there's some extra storage here let's see if this extra storage coffee mug

what's what's cooking all right nothing um all right I'm standing again which I think is good um I don't know how to crouch I pushed all the buttons I don't know how to crouch um let's see here's where he y me do not follow me I'm going to do it didn't didn't even hit me he should have saved those bullets for old soggy pants over here let's see where are you soggies that's old Blobby come on bathroom I'm gonna switch to pistols which here's the there it is okay all right we're going pistols this time oh I haven't seen this one this is the bed oh no I got to crouch to kind of get in there and I'm afraid if I crouch I can't get back up again there we go oh it's it's right bumper right bumper

Crouch okay let's do it barrels definitely somebody this guy definitely has a mullet I am one of these Blobby guys definitely has a mullet all right let's see if we got some balazar here all right good old diary I love it a minor di oh we're in a mine all right that makes sense okay um let's see here suffocating their sense some acid smell okay Locker cells in a shelter waiting to rescue okay 26 days later all right stuck in a mine probably in the 1980s um let's do this we're stuck in a 1980s mine or maybe some some guys that just really like 1980s posters all right um let's see here let's let's Crouch it again somehow for some reason I can't switch to the pistol on the controller I have to go to one if I if I lose to another Blobby pants I'm going to have

to switch to um keyboard and mouse I I'm fine with keyboard and mouse it's just that's cute Arrangement um let's come on come on no mattresses I bet those guys just stole the mattresses old Blobby pants all right let's do this I still got my diary up let's see if I can close my diary oh there we go imagine just running through a haunted house with a diary in one hand you're just like Monsters attacking you but you're still just reading a diary okay okay folks I know I'm going to bash my elbow on that thing oh bathroom bathroom I haven't seen a Lobby in a while where are you blobs come on come on bring It where are you there you what why can't I shoot why can't I

shoot reload reload reload guys are fighting over me good G this crime I really am okay at video games I really am uh I'm I'm switching to Mouse mode we're doing this we're bringing out the mouse button it's just easier to stream when I got the controller okay we're going to try this one more time and then we're going to talk about marketing which I can totally dominate all right I can dominate marketing just one second I got to get the keyboard out just one moment we're going to bring this none of this yeah look at this light I like it how we got now now we got it we got we got pop-up tips this game really was designed to be mouse or keyboard and mouse but um you got to understand this is a this is a tip for everybody else making games players want to use everything steam players expect you to have every single type of control

um so let's see reload the default was to default me with one bullet in my pistoler uh that's not that's not cool let's see and I can run yes there's a shift button there was no run I couldn't figure out the Run button on the controller let bring it yeah I'm going to ring run right at you yeah flashl I think that's just a flashlight just got to use keyboard and mouse that's all it really is like the controls are super sluggish on um on the on the the old controller where's your buddy there's you always come in twos you little soggy bottoms there you are there there there there you there you are okay I'm down to nothing all right we're going to go back down to pickaxe mode bring it Miner a good Miner he's like an Old Prospector just just taking the Old Prospector attack all right come here prospector all right to the bathroom of sagy pants

let me just check here because I think the little buddies are down in here you guys down in here I'm going to go in the bathroom I'm heading to the bathroom if you want to attack me come out now all right all right here's here's the old death bathroom did you hear that come out there you are there you goodness gracious I check I checked the hallway didn't I I told you I checked it I checked the hallway okay last time this is the last time here's the here's the game plan prospector mode in the beginning Wipe Out the guys save my bullets for bathroom time old soggy Bottom's bathroom they're not going to get it let's get all right I'm gonna I'm like John Houston I'm coming in John Houston

it's good enough um thank you Nolan um yeah I I like the old World War II uh ability to do it um let's let's go to marketing I'm gonna I'm going to stop let's let's start let's start okay all right so here's what we're going to do let me switch over to marketing mode um and let's take a look at where they came from how this stuff came about um okay so what I'm going to look at first things first um the problem with the pistol was it took three shots per dude per soggy bottoms and they always came in two so that's six and then I had like two bullets left with one that I had to reload for and then there were two soggy Bottoms in the bathroom so I'm like God I ah all right so we're going to stick with the background sounds of this gurgling mine with excellent storage excellent storage here um okay so let me

um let me switch up here I'm G to uh share my uh marketing screen here so what I did was I pulled up a lot of things to see kind of where this game was coming from um so let me see this one let me let me pull up the screen real quick I'm G to swap out um uh the tomb of Mary condo here um okay let's let's do this all right so here we are um there we are oh so this is the nextfest page and the way I found this game was I basically so with nextfest um they kind of changed it up so you can always see what's the top trending games are trending this uh so here's the thing is daily active demo players trending upcoming most wished steam has already moved they valve has said we will move stuff around on the on the front page of steam nextfest and they already switched most wishlisted upcoming games to Second

slot this one used to be the first slot and the reason is these games have not changed position there's in shata that we did uh what was it Tuesday these games Deep Rock Galactic did bump up a spot I think um but basically this hasn't changed because in Steam nextfest you can really only get like maybe 50,000 wish lists in a couple days but all the other games that are at the top are moving together as a pack so those don't really shift these trending in these daily active players are moving around a little bit um so uh what I did was I wanted to look at what are the most actively played demos so I went to demo players and they used to do it in the previous ones you'd go to the sub Pages like if I wanted to go to Adventure I'd go to Adventure and this widget with the top three these top three sections were all listed and you could just switch I could see the like the top most played adventure games they kind of took that out it just shows like a trending list which I don't like so so what I've been doing is search for a tag so I searched horror games CU I wanted to see the top

trending another 147 horror games in Steam nextfest today and so I just went off of what are the horror games that are most played what are the most played horror games and so we picked a couple I I just looked through it and here's Pine Harbor Pine Harbor is right down there unfortunately I didn't see any pine trees and I didn't see any Harbors I don't know if that's going to be uh uh I know it's coming once you get through the bathroom maybe on the other side of the bathroom there was Pine heart there was pine trees everywhere um anyway so uh last faith is the top one what I wanted to do this is actually pretty interesting because it's a Metroid Vania which is top of horror which is interesting I wanted to do a a horror pure horror game and this one was a sequel and I want to look at a pure coming from nothing horror game so I didn't do that one this one also a sequel again sequels are really big this one I think paranormal investigators I may have done this one I I should have done this one too I might

play another horror game because not not today but going forward because it's it's Halloween um but again same deal it's just like running through a creepy area you don't have to redesign like and again I keep coming back to this I think Indies actually kind of do themselves a disservice when they say we're going to mash all these genres horror games are just like freaking give yourself a rusty old pickaxe and make a creepy monster running at you and then you go for it um and and people love it Hollow cocoon every time I see the word cocoon I I just think of those 8s movies you know like diabetes getting that cocoon and you don't have diabetes anymore um it's let's see lethal company P there's pine Harbor so I looked at Pine Harbor because it looked like it was a small team some of these games are um bigger teams or bigger things I wanted to get smaller teams because a lot of you listening are smaller teams um so that's basically it now what I did was I searched YouTube to see how many people are playing Pine Harbor and one of the

first things I saw was right up here look IGN covered their trailer for Pine Harbor horror games have excellent trailers like I mean you you it's cinematic the the gameplay you've got the creepy stuff you can slow roll it and so IGN what basically what IGN does and I don't know if this the exact story but I wrote a blog post about this search my blog how Market a game.com free for um just search IGN and I tell you how to get a trailer up in IGN and basically the way you do it is you uh go viral on on social media Tik Tok somewhere else with your trailer and then you knock on IGN's door and you say we just went viral with it and you want to host it and then they host it and then you get a lot more wish lists because uh how many how many views does this IGN video they they do really well 36,000 views now I say oh just go viral like you can just do that but here's the thing is horror games love people love to share horror games even if they don't play games they share them and so horror

games have a much easier time on social media than pretty much most games so that's just another feather in the cap of why you should all make a horror game and look the screenshots so YouTubers live or die based off their screenshots and then you have this Mr sagy bottoms here and he's just like that's that is an excellent looking you know capsule image thumbnail for people people are going to click it like the the art Behind These are so good so a lot of people are 13,000 views playing this guy is dressed up this this is how I should have done the stream man that that is cool that I like it when a streamer gets in the act or maybe that guy just looks like that but all these so a lot of people love to call cover horror games because it's more exciting you know you get to get scared and stuff like that um I kind of want to play a little bit more I might just keep playing uh cut this short but as you can see they get covered a lot on you YouTube so horror games are just they just kind of Market themselves as long

as it's good and creepy so let's look at the um over here steam DB uh steamdb is not a site that I run or anything it's just this great resource for tracking kind of in real time what these games are doing and so what I do is I look at um Pine Harbor I pulled it up ahead of time to prepare um and so you we can look at their follower chart over time and follower charts closely match um which list uh follower chart is followers are public of a game wish lless or not but we can kind of see the correlation between the two it's usually 10 although yesterday in the Stream I said 60,000 follow they had let's see they had 60 6,000 followers which I estimated was 60,000 wish lists and the out path guys were in the Stream and he said no no no I have 100,000 wish list so you can see it's even sometimes it's even better than 10 thou 10 per follower so just keep that in mind so this is their follower count um they launched their steam page back in June which is great uh you want

a long run time for win this game for this let me just quick to see if they have a date they don't have a date when they're going to release but I always say at least six months and this data is backed up by valve valve has published data that says games always do better when they have are on Steam for at least six months which is great so they've been up for what is that uh like um like four months five months up on Steam and they launched and you can see this good quick pickup when was the um IGN thing when did that launch one month ago so they got onto IGN one month ago so what I do is I go over here let's see what the impact of that was let's see if there was a big thing so one month ago would be uh like September look at that one month ago September you can hover over YouTube right here I hate how YouTube summarizes things let's see if we can get the exact date sometimes if you hover right here you can see the exact date when it went live they just like anything close enough they just like um let's see what what actual day they say one month September 6th so let's go to September 6th right there

you see it you could just I didn't even to tell you I knew it was kind of one month uh but you know it's it's like right there you can see it you can see the impact of it so we know that they got a pretty good bump right here uh 1,200 and then they got up to about 1,300 so they probably got at least a, maybe 2,000 wish lists from that IGN trailer and it also has a long tail so you can see the it looks like there's a slight I haven't done the math you can actually download if you log into steamdb they they usually add a download so you can download the follower chart and then you can do uh I just like to calculate the Delta between every day just to see what their velocity is so you can kind of eyeball it and see a little bit of a change in velocity and then they hit steam nextfest with 15,000 wish list which is very commendable that's really good and then you can see in the last few days from nextfest they've really taken off let's see if we can kind of estimate how many they got 1565 15 and they're up to eight so maybe like uh 3 3,000 wish lists from Steam

nextfest that's very strong um we're sharing people are sharing their numbers in Discord they're getting about a th a day this game seems to be doing a little bit better than a thousand a day which is great um so that's kind of what I'm seeing there from that but it looks like very strong um pickup and it's just like this nice smooth upward curve I think they're doing really good as far as you know IGN some of I didn't check their social media but again horror games just markets if you just show a guy with like his face dripping off and it's like dark and black in the background you're like instant sharing on social media or if you have a girl in a white dress and she's kind of like floating through a forest instant upvotes and her hair is just kind of like mashed against her face instant upvotes like it just it is almost like a wish list machine you're just like ah here's a creepy girl in a white dress ah I got to up V that you know that is that is that I know I'm simplifying it but folks if you are sick of trying to Market your pixel Al platformer make a horror game they are just so they just it's it's it makes

video games fun again okay um and so uh I mean if you put a girl in a white dress in pixel art people are like maybe but then you do it in like Onre engine six or whatever we're up to five people a I gotta wish list that okay so um that's essentially it I'll switch over to some questions maybe did the dev show up maybe we find out the actual things um but really um um let's see here um how many wish list from a uh a stream with Chris no I am not nobody should wish list games based on me I'm talking to developers so this is not don't try and Pitch me your game to Market I'm I'm really teaching you how to Market a game not I'm not marketing a game um all right so uh if anybody has any questions pop them in there I don't think I saw the devs I didn't put anything out on Twitter that I was streaming this I kind of I just didn't get to my computer fast enough today um uh but yeah if you have any questions but that's basically what I this is a

classic trajectory that I see from um uh from horror games which is they launch they they maybe have went viral a little bit let's see let me look up their um let's just look at their social media to see if they've got a bit of a following um let's see what's going on here so I'm going to go to their steam page usually they link to their um uh they got their Discord they didn't link to their social media here so you can add a thing to social media I would do that um even though I I really don't recommend you you link to Twitter anymore like on your front page like why you know that that platform's never really doing well anymore so why do it um so let's look at oh let's look at their history to see they did an update just say they launched the demo um um let's see here quick fixes they've been patching it the fact that they've been patching it means that it's been live since the 10th okay so they they just during the X so they really haven't been updating I I like it when people update their game like just I always recommend once a month do an update and all you have to do is like horror game

is good too because you can do these like diary entries why not just take the diary entries that we found and just make that a post again you don't have to be too creative with these posts you've already written the content just do that diary entry that I read to you all where it's like we're stuck in the minds we don't know what's happening weird stuff's happening I feel like I'm I like it when the diary they write in their diary that they are feeling bad and then they're transforming in the DI they're like and my hand is I'm turning into a bottom guy I love it when they do that in the Diaries but just that's your marketing you just put one of those diary entries in the in in your updates and you got it now let's check to see if they did the thing let's check it I'm going to click it what's your bets what are your bets taking bets do you think that they did it everybody here on stream knows what to do go to your steam page click your name are you going to go to the good page creator Creator page or are you going to go to the bad page let's do it uh by the fact that they didn't update their events I'm going to say my bet is

no and that's it's fine it's it's confusing the fact they didn't link to their Twitter this just tells me they haven't gone through my class how to make a steam page.com it's a free class on how to set your steam page they I'm just getting the sense that they didn't invest as much in their steam page which is fine I'm not I'm not doubting that just they haven't learned as much and they're still on their Journey but let's see and they went to the this is the bad page um they did not create their creator page which allows them people to search it creates this nice thing they can follow them as a studio really set up your creator page um so go through that um and just Google on Steamworks developer page they didn't set that up um let's look at a couple other things I love I love the capsule Pine Harbor I'm a little disappointed because I really thought I was gonna go through this I really wanted a a nice creepy forest and when I started the game game I kind of was in in pipes land um again good duct work whoever's doing

this duct work is following code look at that I mean really this is looking really good um but anyway I was kind of hoping for more Pine and I got a lot more dripping thing I know it's a long game but I kind of want to see like it doesn't it doesn't matter this is just me complaining about stuff it doesn't even matter but I I I want to see the pine trees like I don't know but anyway it's a creepy house I mean this you don't even I like about it here's the thing about castles they're not about telling everything that's in the game it's not like it's not like the menu at a restaurant where you're like we got zombies we got this we got to throw everything in there it's about evoking A vibe in Pine Harbor you got a creepy house creepy fog in the back Pine Harbor what else do you want that's right there that's that's really how you do it um let's look at anything else how much time left we got 20 minutes um ask some questions I'll I'll check some questions I want to try and beat this I want to try and get through that bathroom Okay so let's let's get through this bathroom let me see if I can do it let's do it by

sense of them and that's the whole thing with video games when I'm like just show me the inventory like show me the UI because yes in the beginning it's like that this is just a general not about this game this is not about this game I think this game's great uh it's just in general like I don't know I think we get too precious about immersion because after a while you're just like what get out what kind of bullets do you have awful looking hor hanging corpse we just kind of for we lose we lose uh what's in there how much health do I have I have I don't know what the end is but let me just take it I'm just going to can I use it use use it all right um okay I I don't think I I need it anymore I I don't think I need it because I couldn't use it okay all right time for the bathroom Oh I thought I saw something or it's just a little little bit of that okay whoa okay whoa oh I hear you I saw his hand I saw that hand little Guy come on out there you are yep

gotcha all right come on um any pine trees over here no pine trees okay I'm still like I know we got five minutes I'm gonna I'm gonna go until I see a pine tree um do you think that a horror game should hide the fact that it's a horror game no no you should always just be honest with what your game is like here's the thing is there's a there's an old saying a rock concert is good a ballet con a ballet show is good but don't sell a ballet as if it's a rock concert like just be what you are um and here's the thing this is the thing that people don't understand about marketing um I know I'm like giving this like lecture on marketing in the bottom of a hell swamp down here like in the bottom of a a hellish mind but why not anytime here's the thing about marketing

you are not trying to bring in new people I know that sounds weird you are not you are finding a pool of people that already exist and have a certain set of desires and you are saying I am the perfect game for you especially as an indie we do not convert people we do not make somebody that's like I don't like horror games and you're like yes you will you're going to like them this is the the big well there there's that creepy blink I love that effect by the way here's the thing with our job is not to change people's minds it really isn't as a marketer all we do is find somebody that already exists and says you like all these things I made something that is also all those things that you like go buy and so that's why I don't think that your our job is not to make ourselves more appealing big big Mega corporations can kind of do it but here's the hard thing is um it takes millions and millions and millions and millions of dollars to make somebody say I don't like this thing oh I'm starting to like it oh I will like this this is

the biggest misconception that Indies have is that we are changing somebody's Minds we are not we are already finding something that they like and we're just saying we are that thing it is very expensive and difficult to change somebody's mind so I want everybody uh to kind of internalize that because that's an very important lesson to learn with that lecture over let's go into the hell bathro and try and shoot our way through the bathroom all right more 80s um smut all right um all right let's let's do that okay I think we're in bathroom we're close to the bathroom there's the there is the Red Room with the flashlight yells at us oh I'm already been in here okay now that I have that map I think the bathroom is B1 B1 for bathroom I think oh look at you look at you I was just checking my map good to see you good goodness I was just checking my map just like honey where was that gas

cannot loot those bodies this is not cool I want to be able to like there should be an economy to your bullets like okay I I spend some bullets and I get some bullets back from these corpses but oh this bathroom run is not going to be good folks not going to be good the the the UI the game is now like listen buddy you've just been wandering this thing we're just going to send monsters at you until you die or get going folks I might have to redo this one again this game is surprisingly hard um I'd Lov if the developer shows up if we can I don't know ping them or something I would like to know what their medium play time is because here's one fear I have about this is this game is it's pretty tough and I always find I'm I'm curious I'm more Curious than judgmental about this um one of the things that I see a lot of Indies do is they have a poor median play time and if they just make their game easier the median play time goes up and I know it's like oh it's hard it's I'm trying to make a hardcore game your game's usually too hard and I'm a little afraid this game's too hard um

placed oh no this is this one's a fast one you're a fast one um I they're not randomly placed which means I should be doing better than I I am but I still hear some giggling there you are there you are oh you are a fast one too um I think that the audience here's the interesting thing about horror games is a lot of them um is actually pretty casual audience it sounds weird I I think that people people throw casual around too much and they don't actually Define what it means but it's a very when I did that marketing study a few years ago there are a number of people that that said oh I'm not a hardcore gamer but then they loved horror games like look at you shot you right in the back of the head yep that's me hey you see that I it you know the line between

horror and humor it's a thin it's a thin thin as the as the planes between the living and the dead um um but anyway like what I was saying is um the the world of horror is actually much more casual like in my study there was a person that was like oh I'm not a horror fan I or they were saying um oh there was some environmental texts that I missed before I'll be right back I just got to check this stuff I don't want to read it um but but uh this person was um not a hardcore gamer she's like I'm not a hardcore gamer but and she was really excited to play the um Blair Witch game that came out she was like really excited about it and um and they are the the line is not casual and hardcore it's really like all kind of stuff let's see what do they say they are blind what now they tell me I could just turn out the lights maybe if they're blind

then I'm just going to be what like I'm going to be blind too like if they're blind but what is that like maybe if I'm stealthy I don't know but they run right at me I better get this thing ready that dude if that's your last words that is not very helpful imagine your life trying to oh great your last dying words are totally useless you don't look blind to me there you are I kind of love their waddle they're kind of adorable um okay we're going to go to the bathroom we're going to beat this one am I just keep going back into B3 my sense of direction is a little compromised
