Despite the revenue contraction, the company saw a 10% increase in operating profit, which reached SEK 721.4 million ($66 million).
Paradox Interactive’s 2024 annual financial report reveals a period of strategic consolidation following a year marked by both revenue contraction and operational restructuring. The company reported total revenue of SEK 2.2 billion ($201 million), representing a 17% decline compared to 2023. Despite this top-line decrease, the firm achieved a 10% year-over-year increase in operating profit, reaching SEK 721.4 million ($66 million), and improved its operating margin to 33%. This financial performance reflects a shift toward cost efficiency, evidenced by a 23% reduction in the cost of goods sold.
The company’s geographic and platform distribution remains heavily concentrated. The United States serves as the primary market, contributing 86.5% of total revenue, while PC remains the dominant platform, accounting for 87.4% of sales. During the fiscal year, Paradox faced significant challenges, including the cancellation of the project Life by You and the closure of its Tectonic studio, which resulted in SEK 208 million ($19 million) in write-downs during the second quarter.
To stabilize its long-term outlook, Paradox is pivoting toward its core competencies in strategy and management gaming. A key component of this strategy is the acquisition of Haemimont Games, a Bulgarian developer with a history of collaboration with the publisher. By integrating this studio, Paradox aims to strengthen its internal development capabilities and mitigate risks associated with third-party projects. The company continues to rely on the sustained performance of its established live-service titles, such as Stellaris, Crusader Kings III, and Hearts of Iron IV, to maintain its market position amidst broader industry volatility.
