Modern Times Group concluded the 2015 fiscal year by accelerating a strategic pivot from traditional broadcasting toward a digital-first entertainment model. This transition is anchored by the robust performance of the Viaplay streaming service and a deliberate expansion into the eSports sector through the acquisitions of DreamHack and Turtle Entertainment. While the company achieved record full-year sales of SEK 16,218 million, representing a 3% year-over-year increase, the bottom line was heavily impacted by non-recurring items and the classification of its 38% interest in CTC Media as a discontinued operation. Consequently, total comprehensive income shifted from a profit of SEK 1,325 million in 2014 to a loss of SEK 339 million in 2015.

Geographically, the company navigated a complex landscape characterized by geopolitical instability in Ukraine and currency headwinds, which pressured profitability within the Emerging Markets Pay-TV segment. Despite these regional challenges and the costs associated with aggressive M&A activity, underlying profitability remained stable. The firm’s commitment to its new digital trajectory is further evidenced by a significant rise in financial liabilities at fair value, which climbed from SEK 227 million to SEK 1,114 million, primarily reflecting the capital deployed for new acquisitions.

Looking ahead, the organization maintains a strong liquidity position to support ongoing investment in its digital ecosystem. Reflecting confidence in the long-term viability of this transformation, the board proposed an increased annual dividend of SEK 11.50 per share. By prioritizing digital growth and eSports integration, the company is positioning itself to capture evolving consumer habits, even as it absorbs the short-term financial volatility inherent in such a large-scale corporate restructuring.
