Marvelous Inc. reported strong financial growth for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2015, driven primarily by the expansion of its online game business. Net sales reached 26,441 million yen, representing a 30.1% increase over the previous year, while operating income rose by 46.8% to 4,412 million yen. This performance was largely fueled by the success of the native app title Logres of Swords and Sorcery: Goddess of Ancient, which achieved over 6 million cumulative downloads and maintained a top position in app store rankings throughout the year.
The company’s performance across its three primary segments showed varied results. The online game business served as the primary earnings driver, with sales increasing by 173.2% year-on-year. Conversely, the consumer game business experienced a decline in both sales and segment income due to underperforming package software and intense competition in the amusement console market. The audio and visual business saw growth, supported by successful stage performances and related merchandise sales, which helped offset weaker anime package sales. Despite an extraordinary loss related to the discontinuation of certain consumer title developments, net income grew to 2,178 million yen.
Looking ahead to the fiscal year ending March 2016, the company maintains an optimistic outlook, forecasting net sales of 35,000 million yen and operating income of 6,000 million yen. Strategic initiatives include expanding the reach of key titles into international markets, such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau, and strengthening the online segment through the acquisition of G-MODE Corporation. The company remains committed to a dividend policy targeting a payout ratio of at least 30% to balance shareholder returns with necessary internal reserves for future business development.
