Key insights

5 takeaways

01
Effective preservation of intangible heritage in VR requires a sustained, multi-phase co-design process rather than isolated, one-off workshops.
02
Successful digital heritage projects depend on the deliberate negotiation and mediation between cultural experts and game designers to ensure authentic representation.
03
The co-design lifecycle must be structured through distinct stages—including context setting, game-design decomposition, divergent ideation, paper prototyping, and final reflection—to align technical design with cultural values.
04
Deep embodiment of cultural knowledge is a prerequisite for avoiding superficial digital interactions and ensuring the final VR artifact is both technically robust and culturally authentic.
05
Quantitative and qualitative evaluation of co-design processes reveals that power dynamics, role distribution, and decision-making directly influence the quality of the final narrative and technical output.
