The initial launch of Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile has failed to meet high industry expectations, characterized by a concerning performance trajectory following its March 2024 debut. Despite achieving significant pre-registration interest with over 50 million sign-ups, the title’s momentum has proven difficult to sustain. Daily download figures peaked at approximately 4.3 million on March 23 before declining to roughly 1.3 million by March 26. Revenue performance is similarly underwhelming, currently tracking at approximately $200,000 in net daily revenue, which significantly trails established competitors like Call of Duty Mobile and PUBG Mobile.
The analysis identifies two primary factors contributing to this lackluster start: a lack of meaningful innovation within the saturated battle royale market and severe device optimization issues. The decision to utilize the IW 9.0 engine—a technology primarily designed for PC—appears to have hindered the game's accessibility on lower-end mobile hardware. This technical friction is particularly evident in the disparity between the game's performance on high-end devices, such as the iPad Pro, and its poor reception on budget-friendly Android devices.
These findings suggest that for mobile shooters, technical accessibility and unique gameplay value are critical determinants of long-term success. The development effort, which involved 11 different studios, has yet to yield a product that effectively competes with the established live-service models of its peers. Future performance will depend heavily on the developer's ability to address these optimization flaws and differentiate the user experience in an increasingly mature mobile gaming landscape.
