Sega Sammy Holdings
Sega Sammy Holdings achieved a significant financial recovery during the fiscal year ended March 31, 2014, recording net sales of ¥378.0 billion and operating income of ¥38.5 billion. This performance represents an 18 percent increase in sales and a 103 percent surge in operating income compared to the previous period. The growth was primarily fueled by the pachislot and pachinko machine business and an expanding digital consumer segment. Despite these gains, the company fell short of initial internal forecasts, largely due to the rescheduling of key pachislot title launches and persistent weakness in amusement machine sales and center operations.
The company maintains a robust financial foundation, ending the fiscal year with total assets of ¥542.9 billion, a strong cash position of ¥202.7 billion, and an improved equity ratio of 63.2 percent. Beyond traditional gaming hardware, the entertainment division benefited from successful cross-media initiatives, such as the film adaptation of Lupin the 3rd vs. Detective Conan and the launch of the Hero Bank franchise. Furthermore, the organization has begun positioning itself for future growth in the global casino market by exhibiting new machine technology at G2E Asia.
To address ongoing profitability challenges and optimize management resources, the company has established a Group Structure Reform Division. Strategic efforts are now focused on shifting resources toward high-growth digital and mobile content, including the integration of the ATLUS brand to leverage its intellectual property. By transitioning toward revenue-sharing and free-to-play business models while simultaneously streamlining its amusement center portfolio, the company aims to enhance long-term operational efficiency and capitalize on emerging integrated resort opportunities.
