And welcome, welcome, welcome. I hope everybody's having a really good day today. That you're having fun making games or maybe you're working, maybe you're a student. Whatever you're doing, I hope you're having a good day. I really do.
Hey, listen. It's going to be fun today. We're going to play three games.
And I like to say this when when I start these streams, you know,
just because I don't choose your games when you post them on Twitter, when I ask you to post them, it doesn't mean that they're bad games. It just means that they're not my kind of games, you know. And full disclosure, I've said this a lot. I I'm I'm not smart. I'm not a smart person. I'm I'm a very not smart person. And so, a lot of these games are clever and really smart and they're uh technical and I just know I'm not going to be able to do them justice. The ones I do play, they're the kinds of games that I like to play and the kind of games that I would probably make. So that's why I choose them. Um, so I just
want to let you know that that's what happened. Uh, what happened with episode 19? Um, there was several people and I I totally agreed with them. They mentioned that I was a little too harsh on some of the games um because I was being impatient and that was true. Um, I was getting a little impatient yesterday. So I felt like it wasn't fair for me to be impatient when it's a brief overview of a game. Um, so I I put those down because I felt like that wasn't fair of me. Um, yeah. Okay. And I know a lot of you will probably disagree with that, but that's just the way it's going to be. If I feel like I I didn't do a game justice, I tend to take the video down because it's just not fair to leave it up. Okie dokie. Let's see here. Oh, guys, huge huge thank you to the new students who joined Full-Time GameDev uh for the summer sale. Hazel, Stephen, Adrien, Corey, Zth, Trevor, Kenny, Loris, Billy, thank you so much for joining Fulltime GameDev. And by the way, guys, we have
five days left, eight hours until this massive summer sale goes away for my program, Fulltime GameDev, which is my massive program, which teaches you everything I've learned in the last decade of making indie games. And that's actually a real timer if because some people who sell courses, they have these fake timers going all the time. Um, this is a real timer. So, the summer sale, this is probably my biggest sale ever, if not this year. Um, I'm I'm trying to figure, have I ever done one this big, because it's 50% off the program. Um, but it's also you get my 2D program, my 3D program, and my YouTube program completely free. Um, and those aren't always free. So, this is a really special sale event. Um, if you want to learn how to not only make, you know, revenue from a demo, whether it's with publishers or Kickstarter, or how to market your game, get press coverage, um, hit the Steam front page, get wish lists, build a brand, build a studio, you're going to learn from somebody who's actually done it several times. I've been published three times. Um,
I've hit the Steam front page three times, I believe. The third time was with a demo. Um, I've been kickstarted twice. So, yeah, I kind of know what I'm doing. I'm not like a viral game developer, but I know what I'm doing and how to go full-time. So, feel free to check it out below. If you don't believe me, you can also just believe my students who I mean, look at all these students who went full-time, which is just mindboggling. So, check it out below. See if it's something you're interested in. And I'll also give you a shout out in my next stream like I did with these beautiful students here. All right, you guys ready to go ahead and jump into the games today? Alrighty, let's do it. We're going to start with a game called Red's Revenge. And I typically don't play H.IO games. But this game is a game that I had an idea about and I thought it was like, oh, that's clever. Actually, no. My friend Jason had the idea and he was like, you should make this game. And I said, will you let me make it? And he
was like, yeah. So, I was going to make this game, but then I found out that this game was being made and it's a pressure washing horror game. So, I want to go ahead and take a look at it and see if it's something that's uh tickles my fancy. So, this game takes advantage of the big butt principle. Who can remember what the big butt principle is? The big butt principle is, let me see if I can find this game. Red's Revenge. Where is it? What? Hang on one second. Let me see if I can find it. The big bar principle is basically you take a concept that's popular right now and then you do but and you do a twist. So in this case it's pressure washing games but horror, right? Um I cannot find this game. There it is. All right, let's open this up. You guys ready?
No, I'm not the de developer of this game. Not even close. Okay, we're getting weird full screen stuff going on. Um, that's always fun. Oh my goodness, it's not working. It just made my monitor go out. So, this is Am I allowed to say probably an Unreal game? For some reason, Unreal builds. Oh gosh, where did it go in the world? Okay. Okay. Okay. We've got it. Whoa. It's on my other monitor. Okay. So, let me minimize this. getting crazy. So that's that's an issue for the uh the developer to to look
into. Um multimonitor setup should work totally fine. There should be no full screen issue. And you know this is something that Jonathan Blow mentioned uh in the podcast I did with him last year. He was like why is it that engines cannot go full screen? um still to this day their builds still cannot go full screen properly and it's a really good question. Um my monitor is out. It's just completely out. I can't see you guys either. Okay, that is so weird. We're going to try one more time. I don't love this. Okay, we got it. Crap.
Okay. Okay. Okay, we got it. You're just seeing some real strange What is happening? Let me minimize steam here. Okay, we got it. Okay. Um, let's let's hit start here and get going. Okay, good. Very simple. E is interact. F is flashlight. Escape is pause menu. Click is power wash. You've been hired to powerwash a re recently renovated hospital. What? The owners bought the hospital after it was abandoned for several years. The renovations are nearly complete. However, teenagers are somehow sneaking in at night and putting up graffiti. This job should cover this
month's rent. The hospital was far from town. You arrive at night. Nice. Sorry guys, I can't get it to go full screen. I don't know what's going on. Golly. Yeah, it's just going to have to be that way, guys. Sorry. Thanks for taking this rush job. The last guy quit. All right, so a couple things here. Uh, I really like the atmosphere. I like how that story was presented. I like how simple and clean the UI is. It's very nice. Um, it's not over the top. It's not overly complicated. Uh, lighting is good. Atmosphere is good. Um, I think that the if it were me, if I was going to make a
horror game, I would make sure my UI is not playful. And this to me looks a little too playful, especially like that font down there. Um, for my I guess that's my money or something. I would make it more serious, especially for a horror game. I don't Whoa. I don't feel the need to use this these these overlay settings. Um, kind of wish I could turn it off. The this sort of fuzzy VHS look. I've never been a fan of putting filters over stuff like that. Um, that's just that's my personal preference. It's just really nauseating for me. Okay, so we got a lock. Yes, Atmos Games is based off of atmosphere. That's my that's my forte and that's what I do best. So that's kind of what I focus on. We got a little giggle.
Can't click. What? Okie dokie. Oh, it's so really dark. Let me see if I can brighten it up a little bit. Let's give me some give me some more settings. That's really helpful. Um, so yeah, I can't open that door for some reason. I'd put padlocks over that or something or a chain. Super dark. Super dark. Really hard to see. Um, okay. What am I going to do? I need to find like a code or something.
And you guys let me know if I'm missing something here. There we go. Got the key. Oh, I love that. This This is great, guys. This is what we talked about yesterday. Um, when you first introduce a level and you've got like a key lock puzzle, don't over complicate it. Make it super simple. Um, really, really simple. And I like that it was highlighted as well. Nice. Um, it feels like it's coming out of my chest, but you've used a power washer before, right? Just spray and paint. Clients won't pay if you don't clean all the graffiti. Yeah, it feels like a giant um thing is coming out of my chest. I would put it to the left, to the right. kind of like this. I don't know if you guys could see me. I don't know. I can't see what what I'm streaming right now. I can't even see the chat. But like I feel
like it should be like kind of like this, you know? Okay, there's some graffiti to clean. Okay, so I came back out. I I see. I see. I see. Nice. I would definitely brighten it up. It's really hard to see right now. There's a vignette filter. It's really the filters on the camera that are kind of bothering me. The post-processing effects. We don't need all that. Do we agree or disagree guys?
It's pretty cool. I wonder how this was done. Some kind of splat map maybe. That's great. So, it's fully clean. Zap zap zap zap zap. Damn it. The last guy just told me he left the headlamp down the hall. Okay, let's go get it. Let me see if I can pull the chat up here. Sorry guys, I can't see you. Yeah, it's it's hard to see. Okay. Yeah. So, it's not just me. Yeah, it's it's the this this is the thing. I was talking to um
Gavin about this. It's like Gavin, the creator of Teacher Charles. He said that he made a horror game, but he didn't fall into the trap that a lot of horror game developers fall into where everything is so dark all the time. Um, it doesn't have to always be dark. Now, I I appreciate the mood, don't get me wrong. I really do appreciate the mood, but it's I think it's the vignette is too strong. And even Resident Evil Village, what Resident Evil Village has is a subtle point light attached to the player. It's super subtle so that you can always see what's near you. Just barely, like barely. It's almost like your eyes are adjusting. So like this, I can't see. Really can't see much here. And with the filters as well, the post-processing filters, it just it's just too much.
That's great. Great uh great mechanic. I think it feels good. Whoa. What am I supposed to do here? Okay. Clean free me. I wonder what the algorithm is to determine if this is cleaned. That's cool. Nice. Yeah. So, I would say we need we need a jump scare or a story some sort of story moment that that makes me want to keep playing. Um, we could brainstorm here just to try and help the developer. Um, let's pretend this is a ghost story. Um, and it's it's like ghosts or demons. You could have while I'm walking around this corner, right when I turn, all
these cabinets could fly open. [Applause] Something like that. And we could also get a phone call that says um that we've he's got your mother in a basement or um there was a death here um and there's a dead body that we need to find. Um, or there's a buried treasure or there's a buried map or there's a buried newspaper article um that reveals, you know, a clue to a missing mur like a serial killer or something. Do this right and I'll give you a bigger cut. So, like getting paid. Yeah. I would just say give give me a little bit stronger incentive or a mystery that needs to be solved. And I'm sure there is one. I've been told this several times by people. Thomas, just be patient. And I'm just thinking I I could I can be I guess
maybe I could be patient, but most of most gamers won't be. You need to hook them real fast. Really fast. And this isn't from me only. I heard this from my publisher um when they were playing my demo for my game. It's like you got to get you got to get to the point. Okay. Yeah, it's um very disorienting. The camera's really zoomed in. It's really dark. Um, okay. So, that's now blocking, which is kind of fun. I like that.
Oh my. It's like a little haunted house. Yeah, you definitely need some jump scares. We need some jump scares here. Patient 99. I've dismissed all the patients and staff. I believe I have found a way to save her, but not her body. I I've dismissed all other patients and staff. I believe I've I have found a way to save her, but not her body. I have to try. What? Okay. So, we're in a hospital. There's some kind of mystery about a woman's body not being able to be salvaged. Okay. So, that went back, which is really interesting. I like
that. Oh, that's great. That's scary. She'll hurt you. That's a scary phrase. Very good. Good job, developer. That scared me actually. I got chills. I'm actually kind of scared now. I loved that jump scare sound. I would say give me that earlier. Um, give me that pretty a little bit sooner. I'm trapped. Help. Help. Oh, this is a great concept. Pretty good execution. I think having a little bit more like set pieces and moments and animated triggers and stuff will really help.
Lights turning on and off, flickering on and off, doors slamming and opening. Um, more more of the voices. U being able to see silhouettes in the distance, right? Oh, goodness me. Okay. What do we think, guys? Anything in here? Am I missing something? You all just tell me what to do. I think it's really important uh to indicate whether you can open a door or not. So, either highlight doors you can open or even better, put chains around the doors you can't or like a padlock or something. Ooh, yes. Yes. This is what we needed. Okay, great. Gran is watching.
I love that. Okay, I'm actually scared. Oh jeez. Oh no. Oh no. No. This is great. Who's that? What the heck? Oh no, that's terrifying. Is that a face?
So far so good to the developer. Stop it. Golly client. Let me know if some of the main doors are locked. They'll need a breaker reset to open. Oh man, I want to keep playing. Um I
don't have time though. That was like Here's the biggest complaint I have with this guys. Um let me let me take a screenshot really quick and show you one of the things that the developer could do and I think this will help the developer a lot. Um honestly don't need much of my help because this is really fun. I wish I could take a screenshot, but I can't. I I'll just say it because we're we could just move on to the next game. Um the I I think one of you mentioned it in the chat. The graffiti looks like a child drew it or like a developer like a game developer drew it. And I feel like it needs to look way more scratchy and scary with blood just have little drips of blood coming down the wall. Um, there's a a playfulness to it, which I think is totally fine, but I think that the UI, the UI in combination, like the text and the fonts in combination with the blood drips or the blood makes it not scary. Um, but that last sequence was really great. I thought that was awesome. Let me try and close this.
There we go. Okay, so my monitor resolution is all screwed up now. But yeah, that was great. Seriously, really, really good. Um, those main two things. And then also get rid of that. Get rid of the graininess. Like, do you guys want to take a vote? Um, grainy. Do we like the grainy VHS look? Yes or no? Do we like the grainy VHS look? Yes or no? All right, let's go ahead and play Emotionless. The last ticket. If it opens, well, it's probably Unity. I could be wrong. Um, nope. This is unreal. Um, yeah, there we go. All right, here we go. Someone said there was a setting to turn it off. Yeah. Oh, this feels good. Um,
I would say, yeah, I wish there was some sounds here, like a typewriter sound. Always always love that. Good color theory here. Here. Here. I like it. Let's go to new game here. So, the sound was weird just now, but anyway, the scariest monsters are the ones that lurk within our souls. Uh, yes. Nice crisp camera. Yeah, the VHS stuff it looks like about it looks like the majority of you want the VHS to go away. This looks great. Another
year without you, father. Exactly 10
years since you walked into this park and never came back. 10 years since the fire took you away from me.
Okay. So, the voice acting, if it's supposed to sound like dorky and weird, um, then it works, but it sounds really cheap. Um, I would hire a stronger voice actor. It's been a It's been exactly 10, you scared me. Um, it's been exactly 10 years since I walked into this park. Something a little bit more professional. This looks amazing. I love it. Trees look a little bit repetitive. I wonder if we could randomize those a little bit more. Nice.
Willow Park. I love that. Nice. Good. Triggered events are so important. Yeah. It typically if the voice acting's bad, it's the developer's voice or it's their brother or their friends or something. Um, and you can just tell when when a voice actor is professional or not. You can just tell this looks awesome. Feels great. Brilliantly done. Wow, this looks awesome.
What's this doing here?
What's this doing here?
James, if you're listening to this, it means I fail. When I built this park, I thought that last that joy of the children would destroy the evil beneath, but it only fed on it. And it grew stronger. No, you haven't stopped it.
That's cool.
Strange messages that used to collect things from me as a joke.
Yeah, you need Not so sure.
No, I'm not so sure.
There really is something here. I always knew there was something wrong with this place. Something seems.
I love this. Oh gosh, man. That ambience is really loud. I would tone it down. Yeah, it's definitely a little too loud for me. What? Oh, nice.
Teacup. Yeah, really cool mini game. Attention to detail is really nice here. Nice. [Laughter] That's great. Really good attention to detail here. I can't get off. Oh no, something's happening. I love this.
Yep. This game is great, man. If the voice acting could be fixed, it's going to be awesome. All right, let's get off. Okay, let's keep playing here. What else we got? I hope I'm not getting lost. Oh, we got a staircase. Nice. What? I love that.
Just don't know what to do. I guess just go back through. Okay. I'm not sure what that was for. Yeah, the I think the player movement is one of my favorite parts about this game. It just feels really smooth. I love that volutric fog. That's cool. Not sure what to do next. Oh, look at that. Some kind of spider thing.
Let's see here. [Music] Sh. Heat.
Heat. [Music] Okay. Okay. What am I doing? Whoa. Oh gosh. That was cool. That's a little It was a little too much, I think. But maybe maybe just a little bit too much time spent on there. I would probably reduce it just a little bit. Well, that was cool. Um, let's see. Where else are we going? Have I been over here? Yes, I've been over here. kind of wish there was um
I don't know, some kind of radar or map or an arrow kind of giving me hints cuz it's so foggy it's hard to know where I am. And I know that can definitely ruin the tone of the game because you don't feel as lost, but it's just Oh, look at that. That's great. teacups. Okay, I just did that. What's over here? Okay, I haven't been over here. Ooh, nice. I love that roller coaster. That's great. Look at that. Looks so pretty.
So, you just ride different rides and stuff, I guess. And like they get scary, I guess. I'm trying to figure out like what's the loop or what's the goal. Um, I'm not sure there has to be one. Oh no. Yeah, I think with more story elements um sort of guiding me and telling me kind of what's going on and some music and stuff to to tell me that there's some sort of I don't know emotional beats that I should be following even like that stuff like little jump scares like that. If you could give me some music, that'd help a lot.
But okay. What's this?
You're still here.
We need some audio ducking.
You're right. It's just right. One of them will take you where it all began. The ground behind
super quiet.
Okay, so um two things here. Voice acting. I've seen this a lot in indie games. You have one voice actor record their lines and then you have another voice actor record their lines. And because you're not maybe you're not an audio engineer, you're more of like an artist. You just sort of just throw it in the
game and you're like, "Okay, great. I have my lines." You want to make sure that you master it and you make it the audio lines for both characters at -10 on average hitting -10 dB. And you can just observe it in the in Audacity and see, okay, am I generally hitting -10? If you're hitting -10, export the files and that way both of them will be equal. They're consistent. And then you can crank up the volume of the voice acting um snapshot. I don't know what it's called in Unreal, but in Unity, it's a snapshot. You can control the master of that track um and bring up the volume. We also need some ducking. I'm shouting here because it's so loud. Sorry. We also need some audio ducking um so that the ambience and music goes down a little bit when the when the the voice acting starts cuz I couldn't hear anything. Um okay. So far so good. I really like that game. It's really cool. Um I basically
mentioned all the complaints I had, but I think I mentioned some positives as well. I thought it was really cool. Very interesting. All right, you guys ready for the last game? We're going to play a game called Alter Evo. After this game, we're going to vote on our favorite game. Um, honestly, the last two games were were fairly solid games. Um, I think they both have a pretty pretty good potential. Really, they do. Um, let's take a look at Alter Evo. Yeah, Rat Tower. That's a good good idea. Um, that's what I did with Twisted Tower. A faceless, you know, scary narcissistic, you know, clown on a loudspeaker guiding you through can always help for sure. Okay. [Music]
Whoa, that was weird. The sounds are really screwy right here. [Music] It's like a weird clicking sound. This music is really good, though, isn't it? [Music] All right, let's go. Sorry, I was just enjoying the menu. I wish there was more sound. Uh, when you click give me a
There she was. Brunilda Reyes.
Brunilda artist who became so disturbing that she became the target of a secret society hellbent on ruining her life and erasing her from history. I happen to see things differently. I believe in Granada's artistic vision, and my job is to protect her and her legacy at any cost.
Okay. Let's Wow, that's a wild name. Brunilda, I love that name. Um. Huh. It looks amazing. Looks really good. But the music, I don't know. The music feels a little uh off-putting. But let's keep playing. What? Okay. Come here, Granada. Hey, girlfriend. What? What?
Wait, there's no animation. Oh my word. What? Okay. What? What? What? Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. What in the world? You like that, Bernilda? Do you like that? What? What is happening? I don't get it.
Okay. So, it feels acidy. I mean, you guys tell me. We're not saying it's asset. We're saying it feels asset. I don't know what these why they do that. It feels like an asset type game. Whoa. Oh my word. What is happening? Okay. Why can't I shoot them? There's no like reaction. Yeah, that there's no feedback. There needs to be some kind of animated reaction when you shoot their head.
What are they doing? Okay. Okay. Bronilda, what was her name? Brenilda, come here, girlfriend. Hey, I'll support you. I'll follow you through thick and thin. What was that? Okay. Hey, do you want to say something? All right. Well, we don't need to talk, baby. I got you. Okay. Who's that? Oh, I was playing in a simulation.
I'm Catholic. Never mind. All right, Gruntilda. I guess she was just a in my fantasy world. What? Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. What did I just see? Hang on. What is that face right there? Do you see that over there? There's something behind that couch. And then I swap over to this. What? Lord, bless this house.
Remove all evil spirits from this house. Oh no. Golly, not this knife again. What is happening with this game? What the That was actually really scary. Like that really scared me actually. I don't understand this game. It gives me like David Lynch vibes. Okay. Allows EVO to interact with electronic interfaces. Attached high-owered LED
flashlight for nighttime use. Okie dokie. So, don't touch the knife. That's the rule. Ooh. I'm just trying to figure out what this game is. Like, it's got me intrigued. Wait, I I can't Okay, it's just the door. Okay, so there's nothing in there. Why hello.
Good morning, Evo. It's a sprren.
Don't forget about your meeting with Dr. Sid today.
Okay.
I feel terrible.
You're probably dehydrated, Evo. By the way, you have a new email from Teab.
Oh,
would you like me to read it to you?
Yes.
Let's take a look.
Okay.
It looks like you didn't get the job.
A. But they want you to come to the office anyway.
Tell them I'll stop by before my appointment.
Let's go to the parking garage. Ooh, I can look around. Honestly, the game feels assety and kind of janky in a lot of ways, but I I'm more entertained than I've been in the last maybe 10 games I've played. And I don't know why. I think it's just it makes me laugh and it's interesting where it's like where am I? Oh, and go outside. Uhoh, we're about to get lost. I got something.
[Music] Hello.
Hey Evo.
Wow. Bro, what are you wearing?
You're two months late on rent.
I don't have the money yet. I'm still looking for a job. I'll give you till sundown. If you don't have it by then, there will be consequences.
Whoa. Where'd you go? I have no idea what's going on. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Please let me know in the chat. Do we know what's going on? It does give me like a the charm of a bee movie, you know. Um,
it works. It's odd. It's keeping me engaged. It's not repetitive. I'm in a car all of a sudden. Yes. What in the This is the best game ever made. What is this masterpiece? Woohoo! Let's go. All right. I just don't know what's happening. And it's so mysterious. It's like a fever dream. The whole thing is like a giant
fever dream. What are What? Oh no. Okie dokie, guys. I have no idea what's happening, but I'm having a blast. Yes. So, yeah, if you compare this driving to the game we played, I think it was three days ago maybe, where you're like a badger, notice how it's super wide and open. Um, and you It's really hard to get stuck. Um, this is awesome. I love this environment. It's so weird. It's like a weird dream. Got Bladeunner vibes, but it's really um It feels cerebral. I think I'm going in the right direction. Maybe not. I wish a radio turned on. Let's see what some music sounds like with this. Let's turn on some Starcraft.
Oh, no. Okay, we arrived at work or I don't know where we are. Enter tab. Okay, so no, not you again. Stay back. Why? Where are we? What's happening? Get out of here. Start. Woo.
It reminds me of like a um Neil Breen movie. [Music] Get out of here. Smart gun technology, baby. Oh, come here. Get [Music] Okay, so I think those punches might be the greatest mechanic ever made. Uhoh. Hello.
You here for the interview?
You bet.
Yeah.
What you looking at, dude?
Just head upstairs and take the elevator.
Thanks. What was up with the closeups? All right. Well, hello. Where am I? What is this job? Where's Gruntilda? Where is she?
Dude, what you doing in there? What are you doing over here? What are you doing over here?
I'm friends with the boss. He lets me come over and do art sometime. I'm a painter and a model. Times are rough for artists, but the boss respects me because he's creative, too.
What What is happening? Okay, I'm officially a fan of this game.
It's giving me like um like kind of like Max Payne vibes, too.
He must be Evo.
Double cigarettes. This guy is awesome.
Welcome to Teab.
Thanks.
Look, I've got good news and bad news. The bad news, we aren't going to hire you.
Okay.
Your portfolio is weak and you failed the coding test.
You need more experience.
Okay. Why did you want to talk then?
Because given a few months work, you could qualify for an internship with us. Here's the deal. You be our janitor, security guard, erand boy. In return, I'll have our lead engineer coach you 3 hours a week.
Oh, well, that's generous. You can give me one of those cigarettes, too.
What's the compensation? I got to make rent.
Compensation? You'll work for free until you can add real value.
Oh, did you just say that? Ask for rent.
Sleep on the couch downstairs.
I'll think about it.
Think away.
You are a tough cookie. Mr. CEO,
we need an answer by next week or the deal's off.
Okay. Very much. Thank you very very much. I will think about it, sir. What's all these posters? What are you doing? What is this place? So, let's go think about it. Can you imagine getting attacked by robots on the way to a job interview and acting like nothing happened? See, this is the thing, Cooper. I don't know. Is this Is this supposed to be funny? Cuz I think it's hilarious. I love it so much. It makes me laugh so hard. And for all the right Hello,
Carla. Carla,
you must be evil.
I saw your feedback on my coding test.
Yes, you have to improve your knowledge before you can code graph.
Understood.
I wasn't always good, but if you work hard, you can get it.
Thank you. Great music.
How'd it go,
AJ? You know, the CEO's kind of an ass.
It was a little rough.
That's what I thought on my first interview.
Yeah.
Do you live in North Terrace Projects, by the way?
Mhm.
Yeah, I do. Why?
I think I might be your neighbor.
I've never seen you there.
I get up pretty early. No reason to miss.
Well, now I know. So, that was fun. We got told that we weren't good. That our whole journey, yes, we definitely need to go see our
therapist. 1,000%. I I'm I I really really hope the developer doesn't change a thing. I I want them to keep everything exactly Oh, yes, please. I want to I I want to ride my hover truck. Let's go. Woohoo. [Music] [Music] Let's change the track, baby.
Hang on. Hang on. [Music] I just want to ride around a little bit, baby. Man, if only that girl could see me now. [Music] Wait, where am I going? [Music] [Music] [Music] What's up here? Whoa. Okay,
this is so dis disorienting. I love every minute of this game. This guys, seriously, this might be one of my favorite games. It's so It's given me so many like um weird feelings that I haven't felt in a long time. Okay, we definitely need to see our therapist. Hopefully, she'll clear some things up for us. civilian. This hop is an operational disaster. Understaffed, underfunded. Hope you're here for anything serious. Are you not going to look me in the eyes, baby? There you go. Okay.
Hello.
I'm here to see Dr. Sid. Of course, his name is Dr. Sid with a C.
He's in the mental health suite. You may proceed.
Okay. Thank you. Thank you, Dr. Sid. Oh, dude. You been working out? Hey, what's up? My girlfriend's in here getting her update. I'm just waiting for them to finish. How'd you meet? We met at the rec center before it shut down. Got any more? What a strange question to ask. um definitely has the uh social skills of a software uh developer.
All right. Trauma surgery. There we go. Let's go. You know, this game I haven't gotten lost once and I think that's great. I think it's guiding me really well. Sid. Dude,
good day.
Hey, buddy. Wow, we got a low angle shot.
Have a seat.
So, what
what's new, Evo? [Music]
Not too much, Dr. Sid.
Still looking for a job?
Yes.
Yeah. Still looking?
Well, I can't get you a job.
Okay. But I do have something else. I was given access to a secret service.
Woo! Let's do it.
It matches for domesticity.
What do you mean?
I mean, you won't have to worry about your financial status with this one, Evo. Whoever they match with, we'll have money.
Okay.
Yes. And you also have to meet the demands of the relationship. I can do that. I can do that. Like what?
I couldn't tell you. However, I signed you up.
Who is behind him?
Head to supplyan where you pick up your dating module.
Okay, we got to go to the supplyan.
This will allow you to register from home.
All right, Dr. Sid, I'm just going to trust you on this one.
Great. Yeah, let's do that. Let's trust Dr. Sid and his strange assistant.
That's all for our time today. Thank you for coming by and good luck.
Dr. Sid,
you're wild, man. What are we going to do with this dating service? Tell me more. I want to do it. I want to know how to date. So, it matches me up with wealthy women. Is that what he Is that what he said? I trust you, Doc. Whatever you say, dude. You have no idea what just happened. I'm going to join a dating service which finds me wealthy women. Yeah, for real. Okay, what's next? I guess we just leave. Dr. Sid is a visionary. This developer knows exactly what they're doing. I'm serious. You're always given a tonal shift. It never feels repetitive. This is great. Honestly,
why am I being shot? Let's go. I love this. [Music]
Okay, I need to join this dating service. I am excited. I didn't know I was looking for a girlfriend, but apparently that's the goal of this game. Find a wealthy girlfriend. Okay, we got some very sensual music playing. What's going on? I'm just going with the flow, guys. What have we here?
I have no other choice but to lock your apartment since you couldn't make your rent. Meet me at the water treatment plant tonight if you want the key. If you can't come up with the money, bring something to trade or we can talk alternative forms of payment. Well, I got this app.
I had no other choice but to lock your apartment since you couldn't make your
rent.
What? Meet me at if you can. Sincerely, Mr. Vasquez.
Mr. Vasquez. I want to know where Gruntilda is. Where did she go? I thought she was interested in me. It's getting dark in here. Can I go up there, buddy? Please. So, I need to pay rent. Wait, maybe I just go in the room. Oh man, I got to go. I think I might play more of this. Um, but hey, we got
to vote, guys, because I gota I got to head out here. Um, let's vote. Click the link below and vote for your favorite game. I will give my thoughts, my final thoughts on Alter Evo. I think that this game, if it's I don't want the developer to do anything about it because it is funny. It's got a silliness to it. It feels it's got like a a Troll 2 vibe to it and that's a good thing and I don't want the developer to change that. It's it's really strange. It's really strange and disorienting and I like it and I don't want the developer to change anything. If I was laughing, it's cuz I was having a good time and there was a lot of stuff that was really strange. Um, it's great. It's great. So, click the link below. Go ahead and vote, guys. One final call out. Thank you to these students, Hazel,
Steven, Adrien, Corey, Zth, Trevor, Kenny, Loris, and Billy. Thank you so much for joining Fulltime GameDev. And by the way, guys, if you want a shout out in my next stream, but more importantly, you just want to get a really great program for 50% off, check out my summer sale for the full-time gamedev course. And also, you're going to get 2D Art Pro, 3D Art Pro, and YouTube GameDev completely free. Those are my art courses and my YouTube course. Those are completely free. This is my biggest sale event of the year, at least so far. Um, five days left, six hours left. Uh, if it seems silly and dumb and you don't believe the course and you think the course is is scammy, just read the reviews. It's actually pretty great. Um, there's a lot of people who sell courses and their courses are dumb, but this course is actually pretty great. Check out the reviews. These are all students who actually went full-time, which is just wild to me. Um, so check it out below,
see if it's something you're interested in. Um, you're not only going to learn 2D art, 3D art, and YouTube. You're also going to learn how to make a game, whether it's GDAU, Unity, or Unreal, uh, 2D or 3D, and then also how to make money from a game, whether it's selling a demo to a publisher, um, launching a demo on Kickstarter, getting funded on Kickstarter, or hitting the Steamfront page. Um, and I've done all of this stuff multiple times. So, seriously, check it out. see if it's something you're interested in. Okay, let's go ahead and check out the check out the um poll. I always like to predict I always like to predict uh the poll. Um, I'm going to guess that EVO won at 95%. Um, right below that is probably going to be um
probably emotionless and then the pressure washing game. The thing that's interesting is I think all of these games all of them were actually really good today. I was I was pleasantly surprised by all of these games today. None of them were really frustrating. Um I think Alter Alter Evo if if the developer tries to change it and tries to make it more serious and tries to remove the humor and the uncanniness of it. If the developer is like, "Oh, I didn't want Thomas to laugh. I'm going to make it uncan. I'm going to try and make it more serious." I think that's a big mistake. Keep it uncanny. Keep it really strange. Keep the mouth movement the way it is. keep the camera movement the way it is. It's a strange experience. It's a trip. So, please developer, do not change it. Let's take a look at the uh final results. Ready? Here we go. 72%. No, I said 90%. Okay. But
like I said though, we do actually we did have some really good games. So, it does make sense that Emotionless and Red's Revenge would get a good a fair amount of the votes here. So, that's great. Alter Evo, congratulations for winning at 70%. Um, I was a little off there. Emotionless 20% and Red's Revenge 7%. Guys, what do we think now? Now that we can read the chat here, let me pull it up here. Did we Did we like Alter Evo? That was just so funny to me. Um, what were your thoughts on the games, guys? They were good games. Great work, devs. Yeah, absolutely. And for those of you who who joined when I started like and you didn't see me turn on the Starcraft music, I was turning on the Starcraft music during the uh the car scene. I think the
developer definitely needs some really cool music playing when you're in the car. Just have it start playing and then turn off like abruptly when you get out of the car. I think it'd be hilarious. Yeah, let's take a look and see if that game has any reviews. Let's take a look. Maybe there's reviews on this page here. Yeah, look, 100% of the 10. Man, that's a shame. Um, let's go ahead and tweet this out. This demo was an absolute trip. You've got to play this game. It's like Max Payne meets a really bizarre bee movie meets meets Bladeunner.
So strange and I love it. I'm going to post that out and see if people can Oh, and leave a review. The dev deserves it. All right. Um, was it fun? Was that a fun game? I think it was a fun game, right? I I just I just loved it. Oh man, let me see the chat here. The hover car was fun. Yeah, DSX. Yeah. Yeah, the the start was janky. It was really janky. Um Deis Evo. Yeah. Yeah. Congratulations to that developer for sending a thrill up my leg.
Yeah, I'm trying to analyze why that game made me happy. And I think it had a really nice rhythm to it actually. Um, the environment was always changing and the there was always really interesting weird characters and just when I was getting bored, you'd have a really strange situation where a therapist recommends a dating service where you date wealthy women and behind him is a man with his bag on his head, you know? Um, what are you doing in the game though? But see, but that's the thing. Oh, super. Something about that game. I really wanted to figure out what was going on. It was so bizarre. It was like a David Lynch movie where you're just like, I have to keep playing and figure out what what is happening. Um, the tonal jumps. Yeah, that's a good way to put it, Sheamus. The tonal jumps were great. Yeah, I I don't think that game will be um
nearly as successful if the developer tries to polish it up. I think the developer should not polish it up. Yeah, that's right, Sly. I think that's exactly true. Felt like someone who just had no second thoughts about anything. They're just like, "This is going in the game. Who cares?" And and it's sort of this uh free flow. It's a um subconscious sort of flow and I think that's really great. The takedown animation improved the rush edges of the fighting. Yeah, it was great. Oh, and the you know what that game is going to have tons of inside jokes and memes. Um yeah, it's the constant odd moments that come out of nowhere. Yeah. The random knife through the head. What in the world? Yeah,
I wouldn't be surprised if this game gains traction. I really hope it does. Um, and in fact, guys, can y'all go a head on over to Twitter? All of you watching, we got 651 people watching. Let's try and get this game out there a little bit more. Um, go to Thomas Brushdev on Twitter. So x.com/thomasbrushdev and retweet and comment on that post that I just did cuz I want people to see this game. Um, so funny. You know, at the end of the day, it's like a polished game is really great. And and I I I think someone disagreed with me on one of my tweets the other day where I said if you polish a game, like the difference between a good game and a bad game is a three years of polish, which I was being a little bit tongue-in-cheek, but somebody said, "No, it's actually if it's fun or not." And I do agree with
that. I do agree with the person who argued that this game is not super polished, but it was fun. It was really, really funny. The first five minutes needs to be upgraded. It feels too cheap. I will say that I was almost going to quit when I saw there was no animation and we were rescuing Brontilda. But the mo see but that's the thing is the moment I saw the name of the lady I was like this is a very special developer. Um that is a very very weird name. But that's the sequence he made. He or she made, you know, do they need to change it? I don't think this developer is going to be into making changes. I feel like they just go. Um, so I'm really interested to to see who this developer is. And yeah.
Yeah. All right, guys. This was great. I had a blast today. That was a lot of fun. Um, really, really clever. All right, guys. Um, yeah, check out the link below to check out fulltime gamedev. See if it's something you're interested in. I'll talk to
