The publication titled "Las 3D de la Financiación de Videojuegos: Detectar, Destinar, Devolver" addresses the structural challenges facing the Spanish video game industry regarding access to capital. Its primary objective is to bridge the communication and knowledge gap between the demand side, represented by game development studios, and the supply side, consisting of public and private financial entities. By fostering a better understanding of the specific needs and operational realities of each group, the work aims to facilitate more effective investment connections.
The analysis identifies a significant disconnect as the root cause of financing difficulties. Development studios often lack awareness of available financial mechanisms and the management standards required to secure them. Conversely, investors frequently view the video game sector with skepticism, struggling to comprehend cost structures, production processes, and monetization models. The study highlights that while the Spanish industry is dynamic and possesses high growth potential, it lags behind international benchmarks in countries like Canada, South Korea, France, and the United Kingdom, where the sector is treated as a strategic economic asset.
Ultimately, the findings suggest that aligning the Spanish ecosystem with international standards is essential to prevent the loss of intellectual capital and to ensure the long-term sustainability of the industry. By providing a framework for both developers and investors, the initiative seeks to transform isolated success stories into a robust, consistently funded national industry. The project was developed by the Spanish Association of Video Game Production and Development Companies (DEV) with support from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.
