welcome to the indie game Showdown I'm your host Thomas brush hey I'm going to be playing three indie games from our community and I'm going to be giving feedback as I go the ultimate question is which game is best well the choice is yours and mine so let's jump in hi everyone I'm bwar I'm a solo India developer working on a game called chicken Stone fly it's a physics platform a rage game about a rooster trying to escape a chicken coup prison with his trusty plungers thanks and enjoy the video one lonely rooster is determined to escape his shackles working out every single day he gathers his strength to one day finally be strong enough to break down the cell door and escape the prison he [Music] is I love this this is actually really cool
that's a really fun mechanic I like it a lot after my conversation with pony pants I've been really interested in games with a unique control scheme nice I love that woo so it's cool it's some it's just you got to get used to it it's all based on just a single click wish there was a sound there I think the graphics are really boring not going to lie but I understand why it's a prison and it creates contrast with this duck or this chicken I'm trying to think visually what you could do you could probably create more contrast you could probably make the environment look hardcore like really dark like Resident Evil Rusty bloody um gears moving and spinning chains flickering lights you've got a couple flickering lights but I mean why aren't you taking advantage of the the 2D lighting system so right now it's just a little drab but I I understand why I get it because the game is very much focused on this mechanic which I think this mechanic is brilliant
if this was a rage game there might be something there and I think maybe it might be I'm not sure it's very rewarding I feel I feel very very good when I get to it no oh thank you Lord I don't think that the mechan that the environment is is correct for the mechanic the environment's really boring and I I'm just sitting here going what if it was like a beautiful cave with like waterfalls coming down and like tropical yes oh jeez okay yeah definitely a rage game there's definitely rage potential here I do like the silence I'm not going to critique the silence but I am curious what it would be like if there was some music but I understand that this is one of those patient games where you just sort of play mindlessly I think it'd be a really good mobile game too crap oh
this is very addicting by the way very addicting here's my proposal for this game I like the idea of escaping prison but there's there's just not enough depth here graphically the game is really suffering the mechanics and the feeling of it the gimmick is just phenomenal this is definitely going to be really fun to speedrun now let's let's examine really quick let's examine the steam page let me get my glasses oh my goodness a level editor Okay so man there's so much here and I just don't think graphically it's there all right we're going to do something developer you're going to think I'm like being an a-hole here I'm trying to help you but let me show you an example here of what we could do you can get a a lot done with forground elements as long as they're not interfering with the rest of the game and this might blow your mind I'm I'm not I'm not kidding either by the way I would much rather play a game where I'm climbing like like caves or
something but I can see out of the caves and I can see just this beautiful ocean cuz you what you do is you get the sense of height and that's that's the whole point right so that's that's what I would do and then I would make this brown so as you go up you're slowly seeing yourself go up the sky so you could you could imagine having a bunch of islands here in the background and then as we go up there's more trees and leaves if I was to change the setting completely I'd say okay it's about a chicken that's fine maybe he's locked in the dungeon on an island and then there's your there's your theme it's no longer prison it's an island but that's that's just me you know what would the plunger be attached to Ah that's a good question that's a really good question you could probably just completely ignore this idea or you could have bits of rock which could actually make it more interesting obviously my idea here is not perfect but I do like to see the height you know um let's try again here [Music]
I swear to you I'm not trying to ruin your game if you're the developer I am I genuinely been trying to help but you can imagine I mean look let me show you something here watch watch this is crazy so you've got the sound of waterfall Ambience and we're climbing up the first level which is this Cave System you see that believe me I know we haven't even solved the the issue of well Thomas it's got to connect to something maybe you just make it have a propeller on it or it's a little balloon or something and it just it doesn't matter that it's touching anything you you know I I don't know and then finally one final thing here it's just an idea [Music] okay come on yes yes dude there's so much here what a great concept for a game all right that was great while the artwork could use some work the main movement was actually pretty pretty awesome but
is that enough to make it the winner of today's indie game Showdown well let's jump into the next game and see oh that feels good click click click CLI click oh yeah oh where's the clicking sound come on come on I'm going to create a server if anyone wants to join how do I turn the flashlight on oh gosh hello thank you oh I can slide okay I can save I think I can save right press e to pick up metal pot oh we just got someone who died okay I'm getting supplies key oh I heard you talk yo can you hear
me yeah awesome okay I don't really know what we're doing but we're just going to keep playing here and see what this is it's really cool so far what do you think it's not too bad the graphics are a little bit I like the Aesthetics no yeah I think the game feel is good like I like the movement look at us we got our whole ourselves a whole party here power oh no oh cool there's a okay you can grab grab Ledges spawns of crap ow this is so far pretty nice I actually really enjoy this this is fun I I think it's procedurally generated I just assume how did you do that oh there's a I I don't think there's supposed to be a wall here you can clip through it and there's like another side on the [Music] other I I don't whoa I'm not sure well this this might be mean yeah it might be procedurally generated cuz this might be a glitch I just wish I knew what the items were for you know have you figured
out what they're for I have no idea I I can't pick up anything cuz I think my all my hands are full oh cool okay all right press e to lower the level lever may I think this is a co-op yeah definitely definitely to jump on one pie just I just want to see what it is can that lower down any further no I can try to jump on it you can't jump on that as okay so let's see here all right I'm going to go for it got it okay oh you got it yeah you lift me up do you want me to raise you yeah yeah yeah You Raise Me Oh wait hold there's another platform right there oh no that came out that Little Rock okay I don't know if you can I got it oh you got it okay balls of steel um I don't know which lever okay well hey that was really fun what was your name
Lu what Lucas you said yeah Lucas nice to meet you I got to head out I'm going to rate this game now okay all right all right thanks for joining wow that was a really fun multiplayer game but it was a little bit dark and it wasn't always super clear what you had to do what the mission was but it still feels really really good and clearly we had a great time playing this game but is it enough to beat chickens don't fly that's the question or maybe it's the next game that wins [Music] hey I'm risky biscuit games I'm making an educational horror game that teaches Morse code and I develop all of it on Twitch I hope you enjoy it thanks for playing My Demo it's still a work in progress and only the intro part of the story is done voice lines are still coming you have 10 days to explore before your character perishes there is no end of the game but I challenge you to reach level 10 that's kind of interesting I like that a lot this looks really good actually I love this menu I wish these weren't so snug against that corner I wish the padding was even on all of this o this feels really good
though what a nice menu okay let's play by the year 2843 Humanity had conquered the Stars didn't it say something about the voice acting is not complete because it sounds like your brother did it and so we need to we need to fix that and I think you're going to fix that a great voice actor they use the natural voice they have so yours sounds like this the complete destruction of Oro only spurred more Rebellion throughout the union you'd be better off just doing this the complete destruction of Oro only spurred more Rebellion throughout the union you know cuz like at the end of the day if it's not natural it actually sounds worse than if you just did it in a normal like whatever American or Canadian I don't know where you're from accent voices.com is my point go to voices.com and get some great voice acting all right we're here Oro the infamously dead but are you just look around FN it's like I've always told okay I know I'm pissing some of you off right now but I'll explain should just remember we only have a couple days until all right one of my things to do
is to treat your demo like a player is going to treat it they're going to skip that dialogue the goal is to play your game the way that most dummy players are going to play your game cuz that's really the best way to review it I like how this looks it's really cool it's a little dark hard to see each door has a letter code on it if you transmit that code in Morse it'll open what Morse Works in dots and dashes each dot is just a quick press while dashes are held for longer okay so press Q oh gosh how do I I do it t oh I see so T is click and hold I guess unable to send Morse code letters too long hey it actually worked I love that that's really clever yeah with with new voice acting that's going to be great like seriously the dialogue is really well written it is super dark I would recommend well let's just try and brighten it up let's see what we can do here it's just a little dark this game I'm going to brighten it up mainly I'm thinking about the marketing potential
of this game I saw your steam page everything is really dark people don't buy that like you've got to you've got to brighten things up even if it's a moody game you've got to brighten it up that is such a good mechanic yeah that's totally true Jason Jason says the YouTube compression is crushing the visuals if you want this game to be streamable which it is right we're streaming it right now it looks amazing I think it's got a very unique style it's very pretty if it's too dark YouTube is just going to crush it and it's just going to look ugly like this is this right here is default look at this if I go to 50 and look you you're putting coward here but like I'm not a coward I just don't I don't know I can't see anything this is brutal all right M brilliant work I freaking love that mechanic put some point lights around where like why is there no light coming from these PCS all right we got a workbench we got Electronic Component we got scrap metal and all all sorts of cool crafting okay I think I have an
idea of how I want to rate this game okay the morse code was a fantastic idea for a mechanic and really it makes a great Contender for today while it's really hard to see cuz it's just so freaking dark in this game I can definitely see what the game's potential is especially with the morse code mechanic but with that comes an end to our pilot episode of indie game Showdown three games all with their ups and downs and only one can win today so I asked you to vote for which game you thought was best and you weren't kidding around because the winner for our first indie game Showdown is chickens don't fly with 58% of the vote treasure Hunters got second place with 25% of the vote and SOS forgotten Planet got third place with 177% of the vote so it was a close one between those two all right so what do you think do you agree with the winner let me know in the comments below and I'll see you next time at the indie game Showdown cheers
