GungHo Online Entertainment FY2020 Q2 Financial Results

GungHo Online Entertainment’s financial results for the second quarter of the fiscal year ending December 2020 reflect a period of contraction compared to the previous year. The company reported a consolidated net sales figure of 42.19 billion yen, representing a 28.1% decline year-over-year. Operating profit fell by 39.6% to 12.35 billion yen, while net income attributable to owners of the parent decreased by 40.2% to 7.98 billion yen. These results cover the six-month period from January 1, 2020, to June 30, 2020.

The decline in performance is primarily attributed to lower revenue from key titles, including the flagship mobile game Puzzle & Dragons and Ragnarok M: Eternal Love. Despite these headwinds, the company maintained a focus on maximizing the value of existing assets through consistent updates, collaborations, and event management, which helped stabilize monthly active user counts. In terms of new initiatives, the company launched the Nintendo Switch title Ninjala in June 2020, which achieved 3 million global downloads shortly after the reporting period.

The company operates as a single business segment, focusing on global content development. While the COVID-19 pandemic necessitated remote work arrangements and caused some delays in development and marketing activities, the overall impact on the fiscal year’s performance is considered limited at this stage. Due to the high volatility of the content industry and the difficulty of calculating precise forecasts in the current environment, the company has opted not to disclose full-year consolidated earnings projections. The financial position remains stable, with total assets of 108.55 billion yen and an equity ratio of 80.7% as of June 30, 2020.
