Stillfront
These acquisitions aim to diversify Stillfront's portfolio and expand its reach in the free-to-play market.
Stillfront Group AB outlines the strategic acquisition of two game developers, Super Free Games and Sandbox Interactive, to bolster its position as a leading free-to-play gaming powerhouse. The primary objective of these transactions is to diversify the company’s genre portfolio, expand its audience reach, and leverage the combined technical and analytical expertise of the new entities to drive long-term growth. By integrating these studios, the company aims to capitalize on cross-platform capabilities and advanced monetization strategies.
Super Free Games, a US-based developer founded in 2011, contributes a strong portfolio of casual titles, including Word Collect and Trivia Star, which have demonstrated significant user retention and revenue growth. Conversely, Berlin-based Sandbox Interactive brings expertise in the MMORPG genre through its flagship title, Albion Online. This acquisition provides Stillfront with a foothold in the cross-platform market, with the upcoming mobile release of Albion Online expected to serve as a key growth catalyst.
Financially, the acquisitions are structured to maintain a leverage ratio of approximately 1.4x EBITDA, keeping the group within its established financial targets. Pro forma figures for the first three quarters of 2020 indicate that the combined entities would have increased Stillfront’s net revenue by 640 million SEK. For the 2021 fiscal year, the combined contribution from these targets is forecasted to reach between 1.5 and 2.0 billion SEK in net revenue and 350 to 450 million SEK in adjusted EBITDA. These projections rely on the continued performance of existing titles and the successful execution of new product pipelines. The transactions reflect a broader corporate strategy of aggressive M&A activity, with six acquisitions completed in 2020 alone, aimed at scaling operations and meeting increasing global demand for high-quality, long-lifecycle gaming content.
