THQ Nordic
It integrates a platform specializing in early-stage investments.
THQ Nordic AB expanded its footprint in the Nordic gaming ecosystem through the acquisition of Goodbye Kansas Game Invest, a Stockholm-based platform specializing in early-stage investments. The transaction, valued at 42 million SEK, provides the parent company with a strategic portfolio of five game development studios and associated management expertise. This acquisition serves to bolster THQ Nordic’s internal development capabilities by integrating a proven team with deep industry networks and a history of identifying promising early-stage projects.
The acquired portfolio includes equity stakes in five distinct studios: Framebunker, Neon Giant, Palindrome Interactive, Kavalri, and Fall Damage. These companies, located across Sweden and Denmark, focus on diverse genres ranging from action RPGs and cyberpunk action to online PvP and community-driven riding games. Ownership stakes in these entities vary between 21% and 50%, with the studios currently at various stages of development, from initial project work to post-release support. In addition to the studio equity, the deal secures royalty rights to the action RPG title Biomutant.
The management team transitioning under this agreement brings extensive experience, with key personnel averaging over a decade of professional game development background. By absorbing this platform, THQ Nordic gains not only the existing investment assets—which represent a historical invested capital exceeding the purchase price—but also a specialized infrastructure for scouting and nurturing emerging talent within the Nordic region. This move reflects a broader corporate strategy of scaling development operations through targeted acquisitions of both intellectual property and the human capital necessary to drive future growth in the global gaming market.
