Today is going to be a lot of fun. We're going to be making games. We're going to be hanging out. That's about it. That's all we're really going to do. We have a huge list of bugs that we want to work on today. I'll show you those in a second. Um, let me pull up the chat really quick. Man, I love live streaming with you guys. It's so much fun just making games, hanging out, having a good time. I'm going to turn on some low-fi today. Hopefully we won't get a weird copyright strike. Copyright. Anyway, what's that? So, this is like I can't hear. There we go. Whoa, that's really loud. Sorry. Fox, how you doing? Joshua, how you doing?
All right, let's find some good low-fi for us. Some good old-fashioned low-fi. I know we didn't have it last time. Nah, I'm not going to turn anything on actually. Cuz I might want to edit this stream. Sorry. I'm so sorry. Um, what am I doing? I'm pulling up the chat. I'm pulling up the chat. Come on in guys. Come on in. Gordon, how you doing bud? How you doing? Um, Doomen, how you doing? Good to see you. Man, the freaking thumbnail is not right for this either. Hold on one sec. Let me fix our thumbnail as well. Save. Good. Let's bring up the live stream. J Cloud, how you doing? Come on in. Come on in. Come on in.
Good to see you guys. Good to see you. Here we go. Okay, I got my chat up. Let's jump into game dev and live streaming. Nice cozy morning stream. That's right. Uh by the way, guys, look. If you want to learn how to make games and you want to learn how to strike a deal with a publisher, you want to learn how to crowd fund or you were you want to learn how to find a just a variety of ways to make money as an indie dev, check out the uh webinar below, link below. Teaches you how to make six figures with just a demo. Obviously, I can't make any promises, but I can tell you what I've done. So, check it out below. See if it's something you're interested in. All right, let's go ahead and take a look at today's task list. We've got a lot of stuff, actually. Oh my goodness.
So, chapter three, this is due April 25th, which is Let's see here. Uh basically, yeah, we got more than 2 weeks to wrap this up. I think we will. Um so, first things first, guys, let's go ahead and open up Unity and get started. And guys, ask any questions or comments or conversations or any cool tech stuff you want me to check out today, let me know. Anything you're interested in. Any game stuff, gaming stuff, tech stuff, AI stuff, I'll take a look during the stream and maybe we can chat about it. Uh Jumbao Jumbo NBZ says, "Good very early morning from New Zealand." Dooman says, "You're in top three game developers on YouTube." Really? I don't see why I'm not the first though. That's That's what's confusing to me. What What do they have on me that I don't have? Hey Thomas, this is from
Brighton. Hey Thomas, I want to thank you. You're the first one to inspire me to make games. Now, I'm 5 years into making my first game. It's 5 years a long time, but I know how it feels. And you're close to finishing it. That's awesome. That's awesome. All right. So, the first thing we want to do today is we want to jump into the clown casino level. And basically what we're doing is we're trying to make this uh We're trying to make this um you know, fully playable. We don't want it to be perfect. And I'm talking about the whole game. All the way to chapter five. The goal is by May 30th to make this game fully playable with no issues. And then we go in and polish it and add story and stuff. But, I need this this task list here is just to make it fully playable. Hey Thomas, wouldn't it be cool to have a brush with your name on it as a prop?
That is great. I think that's awesome. I think we should do it. Let me turn the volume up here. Check one, two, one, two. There we go. There we go. There we go. Thomas, where do you think the Ark of the Covenant is today? This is from Gordon. Boy, I have no idea. I have no idea. I I've saw there was some stuff about that. I didn't really I tend to ignore that stuff. Fuzzy says, "I resisted Grok for a while, but I'm using it now to help me code. And I don't know how I got along without it." Yep. Yep. AI uh AI code assistance is kind of Well, guys, I think it's here to stay. I really do. All righty. Let's jump on in. Let's jump on into Unity now that it's finally open. Um okay, let's see here.
What we have Let's do the low-hanging fruit here. Glass doesn't break for the popcorn cart that is green on floor four. Okay, so we need to find the popcorn cart. And this seems like a small thing, doesn't it? Um but in reality you want things to be breakable. You want the player to feel like the world it interacts with them. So, let's take a look here. Okay, so that needs to be glass. I see. That's breakable. That's breakable, but we also have a box collider here. I see. So, what we want to do is remove that and make that a mesh collider. And we should be good. And now we have breakable glass. So, let's go ahead and test this out. Um just to make sure this actually works. Do you think starting out as an entrepreneur today is different than 10 years ago? Of course. Colin, of course.
Entrepreneurship is um the whole foundation of entrepreneurship is that you are sort of a pioneer. Uh you're a pirate in a way. I view it as like you're a pirate. You're always looking up for treasure. Right? You're always looking for the booty. You're always looking for X marks the spot. So, it just requires being innovative. So, it's just constantly changing. So, is it different being an entrepreneur today than it was 10 years ago? I would say at least 25% of being an entrepreneur is knowing how to market yourself. If you're anywhere in the digital world, marketing yourself 10 years ago, you relied on the press. Um you you you relied on blogs and articles and online magazines. Now it's all all all social media marketing. So I would say social media marketing is like the linchpin of your entire digital marketing. Um, it is for me. Uh, whether it's I'm selling games or knowledge products like courses, whether I'm um, doing
sponsorship deals or getting ad revenue, or doing Kickstarter campaigns or selling, you know, my games to publishers. It's all this sort of Well, actually selling a game to publishers is different. It helps to have social media cred. Um, but that's about the only thing I can think of that doesn't require social media. Social media is the Well, it's the most beautiful golden magical lever you can pull whenever you need revenue. Um, social media is is king for sure. Um, social media is definitely king. I'm trying to learn how to use headphones while I stream, but I just can't do it. I hate talking to myself with headphones on. Uh, Gordon's got to bounce. See you later, Gordon. How do you think the new tariff laws are going to affect the gaming industry?
Uh, man, I do not know. I don't even know how digital products are tariffed, if they even are. And I don't think that they are. Um, I think that the Nintendo Switch What did we see about the Nintendo Switch? Let's see here. Let's take a look here. Nintendo likely to stick with Switch 2's $450 launch price due to despite the tariffs. Okay, so Nintendo apparently is still going to keep its $450 launch price even though we've got the Trump tariffs. Um amid speculation Nintendo might be considering a switch to price hike following last week's announcement of significant US trades one analyst analysis firm has told Eurogamer it expects the company to stick with its previously announced $450 launch price. Um let's see here. So where are the
switch let's see here. However, in its initial switch to guidance DFC also suggest US trade tariffs which include 20 24% levy on Japanese goods. So the big question is didn't didn't Japan already say they were going to negotiate new tariffs? Japan new tariffs Trump Japan secures priority tariff negotiation with Donald Trump. So this was yesterday. Um it looks like Japan is anxious to get you know nego anxious to negotiate with the president. So my theory is is that um Didn't they say they were going to go to a 0% trade? 0% tariffs for both sides. Um Yeah. Let's see what it was.
I yes, I'm not sure if there's an actual proposal yet. I just know that they're going to negotiate. My theory is if they're if they're saying that that that they're going to negotiate with the president that uh the switch is going to stay its its price. The only thing I think that can change the price of the switch is if people are really pissed about how expensive it is. Um that's the only thing I think will will change the price. Um games though let's see here games The question is like where where are where are Nintendo let's say where are Nintendo Switch games um manufactured? You know, what let's ask Rock. Where are Nintendo games manufactured? We've got um Japan and China. China has been at Well, this is China's
tariffs are currently at what? I mean, it's like a basically a it a officially a trade war right now between Trump and China. You've got like a 100 uh What was it? Like 120% tariffs from China or on China right now from Trump and then China just said 85% tariffs um for Trump or for for America. So, we've got China has been a major hub of Nintendo's hardware and software production. Companies like Foxconn, the Taiwanese manufacturing giant. Well, Taiwan Taiwan is also negotiating new tariffs. Let's see here. Taiwan hopes for quick agreement with US on tariffs. So, look, you've got Taiwan and you've got Japan both saying they're going to negotiate. So, would a Taiwanese um manufacturer even they they're working with China uh wouldn't is there potential for Taiwan to then decide, "Okay, well, we're not going to we're
not going to work with China because of the tariffs." And so, they find a different um source or or manufacturer for the parts that they need. um So, my theory is is that we've got Japan and then we've got Taiwan who have both renegotiate or willing to renegotiate tariffs. China is not. Um Vietnam since around Nintendo has shifted some product production including portions of Switch console manufacturing to Vietnam to diversify its supply chain in US-China trade tensions. While this move has been confirmed for hardware, there's evidence suggesting that game production or at least related components may also occur there. Um so, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Japan. Now, I'm Let's see at Vietnam. I believe Vietnam has also caved to the tariffs. Um so, let's take a look. Okay, so Taiwan is doing some I'm sorry,
Vietnam is doing something. So, they It looks like they're negotiating as well. Vietnam to Dubai buy US defense security products to tackle trade gap. Um let's see here. I don't see anything related to Vietnam just yet. But, it looks like Vietnam is going to be be hit pretty hard. Now, the theory is if they get hit really, really hard, they just begin negotiations, right? So, I don't know. When it comes to printing games, um it could be that the price will stay the same. Um and manufacturing just moves outside of China for companies like Foxconn. Um I'm sorry, for for some of the companies. Um Yeah. So, when it comes to manufacturing, I think that it looks like
games like this consoles like Switch will be fine. Um Yeah, so I don't know I don't know if currently anything Let's ask Rock. How would Chinese tariffs affect the video game industry? Let's see what we got with uh uh with Grok. Tug Max says Mexico prints games physically. Um did you know China was hit with a 84% tariff? No, they hit the US with an 84% tariff. Uh the US we're hitting China with like a over 100%. Um True Play Games says, "Hello, not been here for a while. How are you, Thomas?" I'm doing well. Okay, so we've got some answers from
Grok. Higher hardware costs. Most video game consoles like Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox rely heavily on manufacturing on Chinese in China or Chinese components. Um let's see here. For For example, a Consumer Technology Association study estimated that a 60% tariff on what? On on China or US could increase console prices by 40%. Dude, I wonder if Nintendo overpriced the Switch 2 because they knew this was going to happen. I mean, because Trump's been talking about this for years. I mean, decades, honestly. But, he's been talk during the campaign he he talked about it all the time. So, it's I don't know if um you you'd think that you know, Japan would would know that this was coming down the pipe. Um and so I wonder if they overpriced it just knowing But then again, wouldn't Nintendo want to like blame the tariffs?
You know? Wouldn't they I would. If I was Nintendo, I'd be like, "Oh, man. We're going to delay our Switch 2 announcement till What was it? When did When did Trump announce this stuff? Till after March 5th or whatever. Or April 5th. And then you wait for the delay, and then the day later you say, "Ah, "Ah, man, we're going to have to price it at $450 because of the tariffs. Too bad." You know, and I feel like a lot of companies are going to do that. They're going to They're going to They're going to blame the tariffs, and probably rightfully so. I mean, they You can't just make up You can't just cover that cost yourselves. You're going to have to charge the customer somewhere. Right? Is the Switch 2 overpriced though? The Steam Deck is around the same price. Uh Mike Gemmy, I I I I'm not saying it's overpriced. I'm saying that that's what people were frustrated by. You know, Switch Switch has always been in my mind
has always been this sort of lower-tier hardware, and the price has always been um more reasonable than the other consoles. And so, when they came out with this $450 price, I think it just shocked a lot of people because they're not used to that, you know. Tuck Back says, "Companies blamed COVID for 9,000% price hikes." 100% they did. They absolutely did. Um I've seen This is from Colin. I've seen companies um they're starting to add the tariff costs on receipts now. I saw that. Um they put it on like what in the checkout page, you'll see that that sort of a tariff fee there. Um The thing is, regardless of whatever anybody thinks about the tariffs, um I think we live in a an age where adaptation
is like the most what industries and and companies and countries are like the best they've ever been and the most effective they've ever been at adapting to this stuff. So, my theory is is that um industry just shifts around in a panic. And suddenly you've got uh Jaban Japan doing 100% of the I don't know. 100% of the manufacturing. I have no idea about any of this. Um so, that's physical goods, you know, but the question is digitally let's ask Rock, does do these tariffs affect digital game production and sales? Digital. Cuz like there's there's no there's no taxation on tariffs, there's no tariffs on digital goods. Which is like my bread and butter, you know.
Um JCEE says they said they didn't overprice it apparently. They delayed the pre-orders as so they could hike it more. Interesting. Uh what is it? Jeff R says, "I think it's too early in the process to tell where this is going to fall out. Several nations have already said they're willing to negotiate and want 0% tariffs. China is just playing hardball right now." Yeah, they really are. I mean, uh both both parties are. Trump and China are playing a crazy hardball right now. Um and some of you are probably wondering like Thomas, why do you care? Uh I care because I I follow this. I'm following this this specific news cycle religiously because we're building a house. Um and I'm I'm concerned about the price of the build, to be honest with you. So, we'll see. I mean, but like a lot of a lot of house house build house goods and um our our construction costs are like
local, they're to the United States and also Canada. Um whereas it seems like Canada is willing to negotiate Canada tariffs negotiations. Let's see where they are currently. Um Well, they've got a world uh What is that? A World Trade Organization dispute over the US auto tariffs. But I I read or I read earlier this week that they they caved. So, I don't know. Um The It seems like the only country that's like really kicking back is China. So, US is at 104 and China is going to be at like What was it? 80-some percent? What I mean, I don't know how much of this is bloviating and how much this is real, you know? We live in a era of panicking and you
never really know when a news cycle's accurate and and you actually should panic. In fact, it sure seems like the things that aren't in the news are the things we should panic about, you know? Can I get Okay, this is from Jeff. Canada Canada keeps talking about going to war with the US. Isn't that the new Prime Minister um the new uh He's running for Prime Minister who's saying that? Mike Jimmy says, "Objectively, Canada kind of has to make a deal. They're extremely dependent on the US. How many Canadians do we have in the chat?" A lot A lot of house building supplies come from Canada. Yes, here's the thing about the tariffs. Like if you were to build a house, as long as your six Like let's say your six months um What's What am I trying to say? It It seems like it takes about six months for the price of a tariff
to hit a building supply. Um that's what I'm told. So as long as we buy all of the supplies for the house to build in the next 6 months, we should be good. That's the theory. Dane says I'm 100% Canadian over here. Um Eugene says in the world of free trade we blame Canada to be a colony of US. Guys, please. Mike Jemmy says I say that respectively Canadians, I think they are amazing people. So, you know, I don't know. I don't know how this affects the game industry. Uh Grok said when it comes to digital goods, um Chinese tariffs would be more limited in indirect effect on digital game production and sales compared to physical games, but they are not entirely immune. Oh my goodness, guys. I
bold prediction here. Bold prediction. Because the world is becoming increasingly more digitized and AI and automation um and augmented reality and stable diffusion, all of that stuff is all digital. My theory is that it's just going to become more so and that physical production, doing physical production cheaply, isn't necessarily going to be as useful as it was in let's say the '90s uh in the early 2000s. The reason I say that is because, you know, the United States relies heavily on cheap goods from China. And my theory is that, well, if you cut China out of the equation, sure products become more expensive, but perhaps perhaps because we live in this new digital this is that physical games, physical films, physical TV shows, like a DVD box set. Um all of these these physical copies of
entertainment, it they're they're just completely irrelevant now. Now, obviously, you need hardware. Um hardware Yeah, hardware is a big one. But, um like physical copies of games and stuff, who knows, you know? Maybe maybe this reliance on physical goods cheaper physical goods is kind of diminishing a little bit. Who knows, man? Cloud gaming, services like Xbox cloud gaming or Nvidia GeForce Now rely on servers, not consumer hardware, and that that sort of answers something I was thinking, which is well, just cuz it's digital doesn't mean it's actually invisible, right? You've got consumer hardware that um I'm sorry, you've got servers in China. Right? Or at least Chinese-made chips in those servers.
This might delay expansion or bump subscription prices. Um man, there's so many little things. There's so many tiny little things that we have no idea about that these tariffs are going to affect. Digital sales could be a mixed bag. On one hand, if physical game prices arise to, let's say, $70 to $112, which I actually think this is justified, um considering games have always been this price, why is it not increased with inflation? Um consumers might pivot to digital storefronts for cheaper options, boosting platforms like eShop or uh PSN. Analysts like Ma- Matt Piscatella note publishers might keep digital prices lower to offset physical hikes, encouraging the shift. On the other hand, if tariffs tank disposable income, that's a big one. Um a 45% recession risk per Goldman Sachs, overall gaming spending could drop. This is This is I
think generally where my head is. I think this is a good point from Grog, which is Look, yeah, we might not see an issue with the cost of making games cuz hey, you just need a computer in Unity. We We might not see a an impact on our own games and their sales because well, I'm not selling physical copies or at least that's not my bread and butter. I have sold physical copies, but that's not my bread and butter. But, just like in 2024, 2020 20 2024 was kind of rough for the game industry. Look, you just might see game spending going down. That That's enough of a hit, you know? And why? Because the price of products in general increase because of the tariffs. So, that's what we've got here. Uh JCE, he says Nintendo also made the price of digital games cheaper compared to physical, whereas prior to that there were a price similarly They were pri- There was a price similarity agreement with retailers.
It's like they're trying to phase that out. Cool. Cool. I haven't bought a physical game in over 17 years. That's from Sheamus. Um Mike Jimmy says, "Yes, all those countries are already manufacturing tons of stuff and shipping it to the US." Thomas, what do you think about what's happening in Palestine? I'm not going to touch that. Are you kidding me? David Zobis Zobrist, let's hope it doesn't escalate to China-Taiwan situation. Else we might get a real war. What? Cuz China wants to take Taiwan? Yeah. Yeah. Well, there's theories that this is going to collapse China's market. And if it collapses China's market, they won't have time for a war. Although, I don't know if that's true. I can I can imagine it. I could just Google search right now and find out that uh I I a really crappy economy is actually the perfect scenario for war. In fact, I think it is. Um if China's struggling
economically, why not just launch a war? You know? Um in fact, what was it? America just got out of the depression and World War II Did World War II help us get out of the depression? See. Yeah. So, like war war is good for the for economies, you know? Uh Boop says the new Mario Kart is $90 physical and $80 digital. What do you think about the price increase? I'm fine with it. To be completely honest with you guys, I'm fine with it. Um Look, how much value does Mario Kart add to your life? This is a serious question. You know, you go to Chipotle with three kids and a wife, you spend 80 Well, maybe 60 bucks, 50 bucks.
And I'm just sort of throwing a random number out. I can't quite remember. It's been getting more expensive. You compare that to the price of a video game. And then you think about which one adds more value to your life. Chipotle adds about a value for about 30 minutes, and then you're feeling sick. A video game adds years of value to your life. And to your kids' lives. Like, I can play Mario Kart me, I can play it with my wife, I can play it with my kids, I can play it with my nephews. Right? My nieces and nephews. So much more values added. So, I don't think complaining about video game prices I I it kind of bothers me, actually. Like, indie games are expected to sell for like $15 to $20, which I'm going to do for Twisted Tower. I will sell it for that price. But I'm not thrilled about it because I'm like that's that's that's the price of a movie ticket. But I don't get to go and, you know, watch that movie over and over again. Um and also a game is what? 6 hours at
least and it's replayable and it's dynamic and adapts to what the player's inputting as opposed to a movie is just purely consumed. So, I think the price of video games increasing makes complete sense to me. I have no issues with it and I I don't think I've ever underst- I don't I've never fully understood what people complain about the price of games being $100. Um it makes complete sense to me. So, I don't know. But I I don't think people in this economy are going to be able to afford that. I mean, at the end of the day, guys, the price of a video game is exactly what the consumer is willing to pay. Period. That's how things are priced. Right? So, if a game ends up being $100 and you want to complain about it, don't don't be mad at Nintendo. Be mad at the consumers because it's priced at what the consumer will pay, generally. Um Does that make sense? I I I think I think that that's correct. I could be wrong. But I think that's correct.
People's justified hatred towards AAA hurts indie devs on pricing. You know, what guys, what's one of the worst games that AAA has made in in the last year? You know? Um I'm curious what your thoughts are on that. Hey Jeb, wake up. Wake up. Wake up. Basal, because this is a gaming channel, I'm not going to talk about Palestine. I'm not going to talk about war or Ukraine or anything. We're going to We're talking about games. Um Every Ubisoft game is worse. Concord, Assassin's Creed. Um The value becomes validated as soon as
it sells one copy. I don't think that's how economics works, Mr. Melancholy. With all due respect. Um If If people are buy like the whole point of releasing games for these companies is to make money. If they're not making money, they're going to drop the price. So they they just have to They have to find a nice balance between the the value of the actual product and the price that the consumer is willing to pay. And they need to get a return on their investment, you know. That's right. Yep, yep says the price seems to be expensive, don't buy it. Use your buying power. All right. Yeah, so we'll see, guys. I don't know. I don't know what's going to happen with the game industry with the tariffs, but bare minimum buying power goes down for people cuz whether you like the tariffs or not,
it's going to be tight for a while. Things are going to be tough for a while. People are going to spend less on games instead of buying five to six games per year. Well, it depends, right? Uh It could be that they want to buy a lot of games, Kyle, and then they'll go, "Well, I'm going to go buy three indie games instead of one, you know, AAA game." Right? Do I have thoughts on Mario World? Mario Kart World? take a look. My favorite thing about Nintendo is that they uh
everything still looks like it was made in the '90s, but it's beautiful regardless. Um it doesn't look like a AAA game. It definitely doesn't look like high a high fidelity game, but in a weird way, this looks better than most AAA games. Even though you've got these these low poly you know, whatever that is. Is that a hamburger? Low poly mountains in the background, it looks better because there's there's artistry here. I mean, already this looks amazing. Um but it still gives me that nostalgic N64 vibe.
Let's see the poly count here. Still still pretty low poly, which is totally fine. I expect that from a Nintendo game. Okay, let's take a look. Yeah. It's It's not It weirdly enough, you know, if you look at Animal Crossing, it I think the Animal Crossing models are much higher poly count. They're very very smooth. Um but this this looks this looks like uh uh I mean it almost looks like you know a Wii game but it it still looks amazing. I I I've no complaints. That's Nintendo style, you know. Uh artistry over fidelity is kind of their MO. Yeah, that's cool. It's a water level. Is that a water level? Hold on. Wave Race, baby. That's awesome. I love
this. This is so cool. It Do they have this what Did they have a water level in the previous Mario Kart? Woah, cool.
Woah, cool. We got little Dune vibes going. Okay, let's learn about the whole world aspect. By the way, guys, I haven't even looked at this yet. So, this is the first time I'm seeing this. I saw clips, but I haven't like fully watched it. So, I don't know what the world part means. And honestly, it makes me nervous and it sounds like something I wouldn't like. But, let's take a look. A brand new entry in the Mario Kart series is launching exclusive You know, I've noticed this guys about the video game uh marketing world right now is uh having voiceover explain the game as if it was like a webinar is becoming increasingly more and more popular. I'm fascinated by this. It makes me want
to do it with Twisted Tower. Just have another video on Steam and that talks about what the game is. Jonas Tyroller even did this with uh um with uh what's his game called? Thronefall. He just explains it. I mean, if we take a look at Thronefall here. And then we'll jump back into the trailer. Um I think he does it here. Riding into battle. During the day you This is you riding into battle. During the day you build up your economy and defenses on predefined build slots. At night, you try to protect your realm at all costs. Yeah. So, this is this is an interesting new marketing tool that I'm I'm seeing increasingly more and more. Um you start with the trailer and then you move on to explaining what it does. It's funny. This whole Mario Kart world thing isn't even shown. It just looks like it's just really fun gameplay. And then all of a sudden we're shifted into what the game's about. So, I find
it interesting that's not even mentioned here. There's no desire to even show us that this is a different kind of game. So, we'll see. Let's Let's take a look. available on the Nintendo Switch 2 system. Welcome to this vast world. Kart races are held throughout various regions that span the globe. Depending on the time of day and weather conditions, the atmosphere will change. Awesome. Guys, but isn't there something special about a simple racing game where you go through each little level and it never changes? It's always the same. There's no weather. There's no night day cycle. There's no world map. So, look. Less is sometimes more. I understand what they're doing, though. They've got to capture that younger audience and
they're into this thing. This kind of stuff. So, we'll see, you know. I grew up Many of you in the chat grew up in the era where you you play a game like you read a book, you know, and there's something deliciously cozy about that. So, we'll see. And in this Mario Kart game, you can go off the racetrack and drive virtually everywhere in this world. Ugh. When I see that, virtually everywhere, I my heart immediately sinks. I know this is going to do well. I know people are going to love it. My kids will love it. It's not for me. It's not for me. I want to put the freaking cartridge in the console. I want to hear the switches and I want it to start playing and I want to race in 5 seconds. And I know that that's not going to be true here. You're going to
have this huge exposition of the world. You're going to have to learn how it works. You're going to have to learn how the economy works. It's fine. It's what Nintendo is trying They're trying to get the younger generation, but man, I don't have time for this. Anyway, let's go. In the classic Grand Prix, race through four courses in a bid Okay, good. This is what I want to see. I like this. Miss Cloud says you can turn off the world part. Cool. Let's go. for first place. But don't sleep at the wheel. You'll also drive to the next course as part of the competition. With 24 drivers in each race, the most in series history, the competition is gearing up. Introducing knockout tour. Race nonstop from one corner of the world to another.
There are multiple checkpoints along the way. If you're below the placement shown when you hit a checkpoint, you'll be eliminated. Can you make it all the way to the finish line? Yes, I'm I'm not saying there's no progression. I'm just saying it it requires brain power, which I don't have at 7:00 p.m. You can also freely drive around this vast world in free roam. I'm just a different I'm a different audience. By going off-road, you can explore new areas and routes. So, drive wherever your heart takes you. You can also go for scenic drives with friends and even take photos together at different locations. Well, well, well.
A brand new race across the entire world starts here. Mario Kart World. The game launches on the same day as Nintendo Switch too. More details about this title will be shared in an upcoming Mario Kart World direct. It looks awesome. It looks awesome. My main concern is having the time to fully invest in it, you know. Invest my time into it. But my kids will love it. They'll they'll absolutely eat it up and they'll play for hours. Right? Um cool. Everything has this from Mr. Nevnev. Everything has to be multiplayer. No one wants to be alone anymore. Yep. My Jimmy says, "Yep, for sure open spaces can be overwhelming." Um
There I'm not even going to read that. Oh, man. High levels of ADHD energy over there. Oh, yeah. For sure. Not just time, it's a $79 game. It looks great, honestly. Um and I'm not even skeptical or cynical. I'm just I think I'm just um I like simplicity. I really do. All right, let's jump into Unity get started on these these tasks here. So, let's let's double check and see if this works here, guys. Remember we want to make this breakable here. Oh!
Okay, let's see if this works. That was easy. Okay, it works. Good. All right. So that we can cross that off our list. All right, let's go. Getting back to the elevator to see through a see through on floor four. That is fixed. So let's get that. Red and pink tokens look very similar. I need to You need to make the token
like yellow on Fairground Forest. Okay. Um let's double check something here. If we go to Okay, so let's type in medallion here. So this is the medallion for this level. Both this medallion and the next medallion look very very similar. And so we need to double check and see if we can do different colors here. So this is uh medallion three. So we're going to go to our key manager here. The medallion three, what color is it? That's orange. Medallion four is red. Green, purple, orange, red, blue. So what color can I do here? Oh man, I've definitely run out of colors.
yellow Yeah, we'll do yellow. All right, and then we just need to change the color Oh, they're both red. We can't have that. Let's do orange. There we go. What does orange look like? Let's open it up and see. So, that we're looking for the UI elements. So, I'm not a big simulation game fan. Not Not in this part of my life, no. Um I have very limited emotional and physical energy these days. I like simplicity. I really do. All right, is that the orange one? Or is that the orange one? See, we got a problem here. Let's double-check. Where did my screen go?
Where did my screen go? There it is. Midlo says, "I noticed something where game developers don't play games and some of them have never played any game in their life, and yet they make beautiful games." Yeah. Okay, let's go to our medallions here. We have this one, which is orange. That one's green. Okay. So, that orange one will be fine, I think, actually. But, no, let's make it a little yellow. Let's go a little bit more yellow here. There we go. Save it. And honestly, I think we're good to go.
Um I don't really need I don't think I need to test it, but let's go ahead and test it and just Yeah, let's test it. That's perfect. All right, let's go to floor zero and take a look and see if the door that I use this on also looks yellow. All right. Ready? JCE JCEE says, "I don't feel like I need to test it." is famous last words. Yeah. Probably. The hell happened here? I need to turn on flying capabilities in
this game for testing. Okay, so that's pink. There's yellow. Red is over here. Okay, good. So, let's double check and see if this is easier to parse. Yeah, that looks way better. Originally, that was yellow, and then another one of these down here was red. All right. Yeah, I don't know why, guys. To be completely honest with you, playing games exhaust me. And it makes me so sad. Um, in fact, I set up this entire sort of set up here and there there's a bean bag behind me that I'll it's like a leather bean bag.
And I set it up so that I could come in here and play games. At night, but I don't do it. Because it exhausts me and I don't know why. I think it's because well, I do know why. It's because it's work. I'm looking at everything. I'm studying everything. My wheel starts spinning. I start to get depressed or I start to get energized or I'm sorry, uh, motivated. I get ideas. Um, and I I start asking questions like how do they achieve this frame rate with this many objects on the screen? It's just uh, an overload of emotions whenever I play a game on top of just the feeling of needing to play it like needing to to beat a boss or to kill an enemy or beat a level. It's a lot. Like I played Resident Evil 4 last night for an hour and it was um, I got tired really quickly.
Makes me sad. It makes me sad. Date says, "I think that is just being an adult." I only play games when I travel or for work now. I'd rather spend time with my wife or my kids. I love hanging out with my wife. I love hanging out with my wife. When I when it's hard for me to be completely honest with you guys, it's hard for me to get out of the house, hang out with people or play games alone. I'd rather just chill with my wife. Um, it's true. So, you've got that. You've got wanting to play hang out with hang out with your wife, watch a show with your wife, have a conversation with your wife. And then on top of that, it's also exhausting to play games cuz it feels like work. So, that's why it's hard for me to play games, and that's why I'm considering doing live streams of playing games because
um at least I could do it during work hours, you know? And if it's going to be work, might as well do it during work hours. J J says I played 2 hours of Elden Ring and I couldn't stand it. That's a bold statement. That's a bold thing to say. You know? All right. Well, we got one task done, or two actually done. Let's move on. Show door opening for golf hole in one. Well, we Let's get to the red and pink tokens. Arena doesn't play properly because you have used the token when entering the red door. Oh. Arena music is not perfect. Well, let's double-check the arena on
this level. Which arena is this? Let's see here. That's arena trigger one. Okay, this is I believe Yeah, this is the arena after after chapter after the clown casino. When I enter this, we should get Oh, I come up here and it starts. And then I get my fairy wings. Okay. Uh it says the music is not perfect. I don't know why. Oh, that's for the the previous portions of the chapter. So, that's done. Um arena doesn't play.
Oh, this is the wrong arena. Yep, sorry. Let's Let's find a different one. The arena after chapter after the clown casino is over here. I believe. Yes. No. There we go. It's this one. I go in here and down here. This gets us our fairy wings. Okay, so it should be actually Yes, it's um Hang on. Wait a second. Give me a sec, guys. That goes to the library. This Oh, okay. It's this one.
No, I was just over there. It's this one. Sorry, I'm trying to find the the boss battle that comes after the clown casino level and it's right here. Okay. So, there's no arena here and I don't know why. Should there be? There's only three arena triggers. Okay. Looks like there's no arena. Which is I guess it's fine. So basically after every chapter there's typically an arena. But in this case there is no arena. Um
And I guess it's fine because it's kind of a twist. You have to go outside. Um I just need a sign that's easier to read cuz I players are going to miss that. But anyway, let's go ahead and clear this. So you pull that lever. It opens up that gate. So what we need is some kind of a A-frame or something. That says meet us outside. Let's see if where where we can put an A-frame.
Yeah, we can do that. Hmm. I don't know. Let me turn the volume up. Got it. There you go. How's that? I'm I'm to think how to solve this, guys. Give me a sec. I think we need Mr. Twister to say something. Meet us outside. He needs to say it very clearly. But I'm not sure that's going to be enough. So, I think what we should do is instead have this come down here. And when you walk out the door, it's massive. But the player might miss it, you know.
I'm trying to think how to do this, guys. How to tell the player to go outside. They have to be directed here because um Ooh, what's this? Oh, it takes you outside. Oh, that way. Oh.
Well, they come up here and drop down. Oh, man. Um I think it just needs to be in Twister's dialogue, honestly. Um although there's part of me I love the idea of them coming up here and going into like a dark hole and then it takes them outside above I'll show you. I'm interested in in in what would happen if it takes them outside right here. Like right here there's a a grade.
So it would be like this. There's a grade right here and they can come out the grade. Now can we do it though? Uh that's a cube. It's not a Mhm. Oh no, that's a pro builder mesh. So like what I could do is I could basically punch a hole right here. Mhm. Which one do you guys want? Do you want it to take you outside cuz they what they have to do is they have to go back outside and they have to go right here and push this button.
So do you guys like the idea of there being a hole right here? Or or do you like the idea of it just being a a hint? URS says, "I love a good hole." So, what do we think here, guys? Now, you don't have permission to leave the live stream.
So, what's more fun? I think having them go outside and choose to go outside is kind of exciting. You know? As opposed to them just being like, "Oh, I guess I'm outside." You know? So, what we're going to do is as part of the story element, we're going to have the TV automatically play. All right. So, what we're going to do now that I have that in my head, we're going to go ahead. By the way, those of you just joining us, check out the webinar below. Teaches you how to pitch your game to publishers,
how to make six figures with just a demo. Check it out below. See if it's something you're interested in. All right. The project's there, but we're missing the hierarchy for some reason. I'm not sure what happened. Okay. So, we're going to go back to that area. And what I'm going to do is I'm going to have this TV right um It's going to be like on their way out. It'll be like right here. Let's see. I think having it right here is a very interesting actually. So, first things first, let's go ahead and position this TV. I'm going to call this I'm going to group it all. I'm going to call this NPC TV and couch combo after um bounce or after bounce shoes.
That way I can search for it. And I'm going to put it right here. So, what's going to happen is it's going to give a shining vibe. It's going to feel like a Stanley Kubrick movie. Where you have you walk out and it immediately starts talking to you. Tiny, blah blah blah blah blah, I'm outside, blah blah blah blah blah, right? Okay. Trash can, we can move it to the right of it. All right. We're going to make sure it absolutely plays with no question, right? And you're probably wondering what won't this uh won't this play on the way in? And the answer is, nope. We're going to use an object activation trigger to have this appear.
So, we're going to go to object activator trigger. We're going to put an object activation trigger inside this combo here. There we go, and I can group these together and call this object activator TV go outside combo. And now I can put this object activator trigger up here so that that couch appears when I touch this. Pretty straightforward. Zero out the position.
And you want to be careful though that it doesn't come through here cuz you don't want the player to activate it just yet. They must actually The theory is this, they have to Wait, if I get those I don't understand. Oh, that gate closes there. Got it. Um okay, so I believe they have to go up here to get this to work. Yeah. And they'll exit this and that will appear. And so all I got to do is just basically say what do I want to activate? I want to activate this. But I'm also going to go ahead and add an enabled state here. And I'm going to say this right here is
and going to be saved. So, by default, it's deactivated. And I need to generate the new GUIDs. Good. And then let's open up our console. Okay dokey, guys. Hor Lake says, "Thomas, have you thought about what Have you decided on what uh Have you put thought or decided how you will do the first time you meet Mr. Twister face-to-face?" Well, the question is, why do we believe that needs to occur? You know, I don't know if it has to. Okay, that's going to activate the couch, but
we want this I believe we want this outside in the lobby. Actually, we want this outside of all objects. Okay? Yeah, like this. That way it's always going to work regardless of what's deactivated and activated. So, that's there. Then we're going to go to the actual dialogue. And all I'm going to do is edit it. There's no voice-over for now. Um that's going to be during my story phase of production, and I think that's in like July where I get all new voice acting, etc., etc. So, let me go to this uh dialogue element here and just tweak it a bit. It's called floor 6B. There it is. I'm going to open it up in a text editing tool and tweak it.
You think it has to, Daniel? We have to meet Mr. Twister. Thomas, when will the Jabril's podcast episode be out? Friday. Okay. Meet me outside. Meet me outside. Meet me outside. We need something there, like that. Okay? Um nothing to uh Hang on. Dialogue doesn't exist. Really? It's right there. See here. Oh, it's in the old one.
Okay, that's fine. Um so all I got to do here is actually just tweak it here. There we go. That's about it. And you want to make sure, guys, when you know you know you need to eventually get to something, you want to add it to your list. So I've got a story and final features um list here. So I'm going to go ahead and add add dialogue to about meet me outside to What was it? Floor 6B. After getting bounce boots. Good. So, let's test this out and see if
it works. I'll just spawn myself in here. I can't show you guys this. Sorry. There's only so much I can show. We need to ask Meet Mr. Twister so we can ask him if there's a Sister Twister. That's funny.
One sec, y'all. Okay. Let's see if it activated. Okay, can't open this door. That's okay. But, there it is. And it should automatically play and tell me to go outside and then I just go outside over here. It's about it. Not too shabby, honestly. Whoever the Mr. Twister voice actor is, he's amazing. He got me hooked since the very first laugh in the demo. Rowell, that's great. His name is Joe Rollins and Hunt. He's very, very talented.
All right, let's double-check something here. For some reason it's not auto playing. Auto run when player enters. Run once, yes. Player player can skip through, yes. Unparent me on start, yes. All right. Let's go back to our list here. Show a door. Uh needed a TV that automatically plays, that's done. Locked gate should be open if you have jump boots on the way outside. Oh, that's easy. Let's do that really quick. I'll show you how we do that. So, if we
have the bounce boots, we need certain gates to disable, just be gone. And so, let's go to floor zero. I'm sorry, exterior. And there's this cool script, I think it's called disable if. And it basically just checks if you have certain things, it'll disable things. Um So, here's what I'll do. And this is cool cuz those of you who played the demo, you can just kind of see the how the outside looks here. So, this right here, we should have a this one right here. Yep, there we go. Uh Wait, what? That is disabled how?
I'm curious as to why this is not down when you play the game. Woah. Oh, there it is. Activate object if has ability. So, and there you could determine which activate, which deactivate. These should be saved. This should be up. Yep, that should be saved. These should be saved.
This should be deactivated. Um let's see here. That's good. So, what is the problem? I think it's this right here. Um Mm. Hold on, y'all. Sitting here thinking. This whole sequence Let me double-check something here, okay? Once you go through this whole sequence, it should be fine
to come back out here. So, let me let me hit play and double-check. Welcome to the Twisted Tower. So, that goes up. We go out of this dream. This goes up. the tower. Coming back outside is potentially the problem. You'll squeal for your life. It is treacherous. Shadows laugh. Okay, let's go inside. And then we're going to make our way back out and see if it's it's solved. Thomas, have you seen the Clockwork Revolution trailer? I've heard about this game. I hope it's not too similar to Twisted Tower. I really hope not. When did it come out?
This city is a miracle of progress. A finely tuned, delicately balanced machine. What promise does the future But it only takes one rebellious little gear to ruin everything. If you resist my rule,
if you alter our past, if you threaten what I have built, there is nowhere in space or time where I will not destroy you. Oh, no. What did I do? Any last words before my friend puts one in your skull?
Looks cool. Yeah, I don't really have any comments. Um Clockwork Revolution is what it's called. Uh I think it looks good. I think that uh it's clearly BioShock-inspired, which is great. Um we're all due for some BioShock-inspired games, if I do say so myself. Um so I don't know. I don't know. If it's 50 bucks or 60 bucks, um it might be a problem because I'm not sure I I I don't know. I Is it double A? Is it triple A? I'm not sure. It's hard for me to know. I don't really have any thoughts on it, actually.
All right. So, what was I testing? Oh, let's go back outside and see if this works. Well, Twisted Tower isn't better. It's just uh Twisted Tower is an indie game, so it's totally different. Um Okay, that's all saved. Everything's saved, so that's good. So, once you get the bounce shoes, this will appear. That's closed, good. Yeah, everything's set up properly. And then you can jump over here and go in here. Which a lot of people in the demo want to do. So, that's all done. Yay, it works. Got it. One Oh my goodness gracious me. We've got one more task to do for chapter three.
That's crazy. No, I don't think this is indie. This is at In Exile. Um which is Brian Fargo. And Brian Fargo actually has has been very generous to me in the past. He used to He actually let me call him. And he provided feedback for my indie game. He let me call him. He gave me advice for Pinstripe. He was very generous with his time. Um I'm not sure if he's still there, but I believe he probably is. So, I think that I wouldn't call it triple-A, either. Um InXile's made
Um let's see here. Let's take a look at the games they've made. Remember he was working on this when he called me. Yes, I'm name-dropping. Um Looks like they've made a solid game here, Wasteland 3. So, that's 40 bucks, you know. Um What would you call Would you call that double-A? Would we agree with that? No, that's cool. Yep. All right. Uh Well, we'll see, you know. Job Process says, "I think I'd enjoy the the story of Twisted Tower more than Clockwork Revolution."
Uh They're totally different games. I've got an indie game that's double-A, triple-A. I do, however, like just personally, I like really empty quiet liminal BioShock inspired environments. BioShock 2 this is what's interesting. I'm sorry, BioShock Infinite. When you compare BioShock 1 to BioShock Infinite, the first thing you might you might say is it just looks different. Um you know, BioShock Infinite is very bright. It's still moody, but it's bright and colorful. The environment's in the sky, you know? Gameplay's similar, but what you're missing in BioShock Infinite that I think that I've tried to bring into Twisted Tower and also into BioShock 1
is that liminal feeling. It's empty. It's abandoned. There's something hiding around the corner. BioShock Infinite did not have that feeling. It felt very populated, you know? Um emptiness is cheaper, but also more effective, in my opinion, with these kind of games. All right. Last thing, guys. We don't need to save this. Okay. So, the last thing on my list is to show a door opening when we put a
ball into a golf ball hole or a golf course hole. So, let's go ahead and go to golf course. And I believe inside of golf golf course four we have the cup. We have a cup camera. We also need to have a door camera. So we need to go inside of the golf course prefab. We need to have a cup camera and we also need to have a door camera. When we get the ball into the cup, we have a pressure plate right here. And it should have an option here to show a camera. Basically all this means guys is when I throw a golf ball into a hole,
it should do a ding and then it should open a door. I should see which door opens. So it should show me a camera when that happens. So here's the open. We have resolve open. Good good good. This needs to be a yield. So actually what let's just create a new coroutine. Um write a coroutine for me in this script that shows a camera for 1 2 3 seconds or let's do 4 seconds. And then disables it. Okay, right up here we're going to need a new object called
public game object. It's going to be called door camera. Okay. And we're going to go ahead and put this down here. Where is resolve? There it is. Resolve open. I really don't like that word. Uh if door camera does not equal null, boom boom. Uh door camera. Set active. True. And then this one will be false. We also want to freeze the player. Game manager dot player controller
dot freeze. Is that really what it is is freeze game? It'll be true. So the player will freeze. We will hide the UI. We will show black bars. Sure. Can control pause equals false. So we can't pause during it. And then go ahead after the duration of the camera showing, then we're going to go ahead and set it to false. Player can Let's see here. This is uh hide UI equals false. Actually, I think we could just do this. It's about it. All right, guys. Um and then we need to start the co-routine. Which is show camera for duration
4 seconds. That's it. Let's go ahead and position our cameras. It seems like Clockwork is the force the first AAA game from uh InXile. Yeah, I mean, it looks great. It just didn't strike me as AAA. Is all I'm saying. Um I I That's okay. It's not a big deal. You know. Judas Judas looks AAA to me. Um It's very very beautiful.
Okay. What am I doing? All right. Door camera, drag it in here. There we go. And now what we need to do is just point it point all of the door cameras at each door. Okay? So, in this case Whoa, Thomas. It should point at this one. No, we need to go Oh, yes, we need to go inside the prefab. Because the whole level's in a prefab because it flips upside down. Um so, this one needs to be We need to grab all the door cameras. So, this one right here.
Oh, come on, Thomas. This is hard. Give me a second, guys. Woah. Where am I? Woah. My brain is really hurting right now. Hold on. Woah. Okay, yeah. It's right here. So, you can see right there. That's what we'll see. Right? And then they'll go through there. Good. So, that's that.
This one over here. We need to show which door opens up. It's this one. Good. Um I think there's two more. There's this one. Which shows us this one. And I'm pressing control control shift F to move that camera to the right position. That one's good. What about this one? That one's good. This one is not. So, this one we need to point at this.
And I'll test this one with you guys just to make sure it all works. Okay? So, we'll go to play mode here. Thomas Clockwork is looked like triple A, but it is not. It's considered double A. What? Max out. Kill this guy.
And then right here, what we need to do is Okay. Golf course one upright, it's right here. Good. And then we throw the ball into the hole. And we should be able to watch the door open. That door should open up. Okay, so for some reason the door the camera doesn't show up. And I'm unsure why. Um we need to double check something here.
Door camera that set active dot true and then false. Hm. So for some reason the camera doesn't show up and there's also no sound. Although I will say I feel like this door door opening should have a sound. We might want to do 2D. Cuz it's certainly currently set to 3D. Play unique sound one. Yeah, so we can't hear it for some reason. Which is this right here. So I should be able to hear that. But I don't.
I'm not sure why I can't hear it when it opens. Let's try again. Hm. Let's see if I can turn what happens when I turn this door camera on manually. Oh. That's so strange. Well, there you go. It's turned off. There you go, ladies and gentlemen. There's a problem.
Let's try again. There we go. You can shoot as much as you want. There it goes. All right, so we should see the camera here. Good. I've got him on the radar.
Awesome, but I didn't hear it. You know? Um I didn't hear it for some reason. This right here should play a sound. Oh, it's cuz the volume is set to point one, duh. Well, there you go. Set it to one. And we should be able to hear it. I'm trying to remember there is a bat weapon, right? It's from horror like No, there's no bat weapon. A batting cage level, that would be awesome. Yeah, there's part of me that's like uh
wishes that I I could write a script where you play but with an actual golf club. But, there's a lot to do and I think that's the last thing on my mind, to be completely honest with you. Um Yeah, we almost cut this level and I'm glad that you guys seem to like it because we almost cut it because it's so complex. And for us for me at this point, it's it's it's a mess. You can flip the level upside down, but the truth is is you can't when you bake lighting
and you use static objects to optimize your game, you can't actually flip anything upside down. So, with this level it's actually a whole separate level that's actually flipped upside down. So, it's just duplicated and flipped. So, it's a lot. You're all set. Now, throw that ball. Huh? How did you go through? Try again.
You're all set. Now, throw that ball. Go on. I didn't hear it. Dang it. Let me confirm that. Why am I not hearing it?
I don't know why I'm I I can't hear it. It's going to play unique sound one when it opens. Some fat functions have the same name across several mono space components and may not work as intended. Really? Okay. Why? Why? Why? Duplicated functions enable to stay animator save state and load state.
Okay, so I don't think that's the reason. I don't know what's happening here. I'm going to try it manually and see what happens.
He's at my 9:00. He's at my 12:00. Hmm. Let's try it this way. The last one, guys. The last one from this chapter. And we're having some problems.
That's wild. Pressure plate wall open. It should play that sound. Hmm. Whoa.
His center point is not there. Wow. We need to go to the golf course here. We need to grab this audio source. We're going to remove it. And we're going to put it, um, man, that's crazy. Something's up. Look, I'll show it to you. It's center point is not actually there for the audio source. So, that's why we can't hear it. Yep. It's right there. But, the mesh is over here. So, what we need to do for this object in particular Wow. Oh my. Okay. What we need to do for this object in particular is we need to go grab this, uh, audio source here. And remove it and then put it on this object here.
What just happened? There we go. Then we can drag that here. There we go. And that should work just fine now. We'll put the volume down to 0.5. And it should, yeah, I don't love the animation, but it's fine. All right, let's save it. Take a look. All right, ready? This should solve our problem, ladies and gentlemen. Ready? Let's go ahead and grab the golf ball.
