IGG achieved record-high interim revenue of HK$3.24 billion for the first half of 2021, representing a 33% year-over-year increase. This growth was primarily fueled by the sustained success of the flagship title Lords Mobile and the expansion of newer offerings like Time Princess and Rage of Destiny. Despite this top-line growth, net profit attributable to shareholders declined by 44% to HK$577.3 million. This contraction resulted from a combination of reduced investment gains compared to the prior year and a strategic decision to aggressively increase expenditures in marketing, research and development, and global headcount expansion to support long-term product diversification.
The company maintains a stable financial position with total assets of HK$4.76 billion and a gearing ratio of 23.0%. To demonstrate commitment to shareholder value, IGG declared an interim dividend of HK14.5 cents per share and executed share repurchases totaling HK$57 million. Equity management remains a central pillar of the corporate strategy, evidenced by the adoption of a performance-based share award scheme and the continued use of share option programs to incentivize and retain a workforce that grew to 2,619 employees during the period.
Operating globally, IGG utilizes structured contracts with entities such as Fuzhou Tianmeng to navigate foreign investment restrictions within the People’s Republic of China. While these arrangements are essential for maintaining a presence in the local telecommunications sector, they represent a minor portion of the business, contributing approximately 5.17% of total revenue and 6.55% of total assets. Although the company acknowledges potential regulatory risks associated with evolving foreign investment laws, it maintains that these structures are compliant and that any future forced unwinding would have an immaterial impact on the group’s overall financial health.
