GungHo Online Entertainment
GungHo Online Entertainment’s financial results for the second quarter of the fiscal year ending December 2022 reflect a period of contraction across all primary profit metrics compared to the same period in the previous year. The company reported a consolidated net sales figure of 46.6 billion yen, representing an 8.6% decline year-over-year. Operating profit fell by 23.1% to 13.2 billion yen, while ordinary profit decreased by 18.5% to 14.4 billion yen. Net profit attributable to owners of the parent company saw the most significant decline, dropping 34.6% to 8.6 billion yen.
The company’s performance was driven by its core mobile and console gaming portfolio. The flagship title, Puzzle & Dragons, maintained stable monthly active users (MAU) and surpassed 59 million domestic downloads in April 2022, supported by 10th-anniversary events and ongoing collaborations. Additionally, the console title Ninjala reached 9 million global downloads in May 2022, while the mobile MMORPG Ragnarok Origin continued to contribute to earnings through consistent updates. Despite these efforts, the overall financial results were impacted by a shift in accounting standards regarding revenue recognition, which resulted in a 76 million yen reduction in reported sales and operating profit for the period.
The company operates as a single business segment, focusing on global game development and the maximization of existing intellectual property value. Due to the high volatility and rapid environmental changes inherent in the content industry, management maintains a policy of not disclosing full-year consolidated earnings forecasts, opting instead for timely disclosure of quarterly results. As of June 30, 2022, the company maintained a strong financial position with total assets of 136.6 billion yen and an equity ratio of 78.2%.
